Simple Soup Day at Village Medical🥣

Today, our teams across all three Village Medical sites came together to take part in ac.care’s Simple Soup Day.

Staff enjoyed a delicious lunch of homemade soups, fresh focaccia and sweet treats, all while supporting a wonderful local cause.

Across our three sites, we collectively raised an amazing $489.75 for ac.care, helping support the important work they do within our community.

And nothing went to waste! Our extra soup was packaged up and made available free to our patients, allowing us to share a little warmth with our wider Village Medical community too🥣

A huge thank you to everyone who donated and got involved today.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO OUR PRINCIPAL GP & OWNER, DR MICHAEL NASHED!

Anyone who knows Michael knows he generally prefers to keep things pretty low key and stay out of the spotlight… but unfortunately for him, we’re ignoring that today.

Village Medical simply wouldn’t be who we are today without him.

Michael’s morals, ethics and genuine care for people are at the heart of so much of what Village Medical stands for. He is someone who consistently puts others before himself, whether that’s his patients, our team or our wider community.

His hard work, big ideas, commitment and belief in Village Medical has allowed us to grow, try new things and support our community, while giving us the support and freedom to create a team and a workplace that we are incredibly proud of.

There is so much he does behind the scenes that people don’t always see, and while he would probably prefer we didn’t make a fuss, we think he deserves to have one day where the attention is on him.

Happy Birthday Michael! Thank you for everything you do, for the values you bring to Village Medical and for always backing us.

We hope you have a brilliant day!

From all of us at Team VMC đź’śđź’›

Sometimes you know you need some support, but you’re not quite sure where to start.

Medicare Mental Health can help.

By calling 1800 595 212, you can speak with a trained mental health professional who can listen to what’s going on, talk through what support you may need, and help connect you with appropriate services.

The service is free and you don’t need a referral, a diagnosis or a mental health treatment plan to call.

You can also call if you’re concerned about a family member, friend or someone you care for.

1800 595 212
Monday to Friday, 8:30am–5:00pm (excluding public holidays)

Reaching out doesn’t always mean you know exactly what help you need. Sometimes the first step is simply talking to someone who can help point you in the right direction.

Team VMC are participating in Simple Soup Day for AC.care

On Monday Aug 31, at work we will be breaking bread and sharing delicious home cooked soups as a team and reflecting on our own blessings with gratitude whilst raising funds for those who need it most.

We have chosen to continue to support our beautiful Limestone Coast region.

Send us through your fav Soup recipes, donate, or encourage your own workplace to participate too.

We are very excited to share that our first recipient of our $500 Village Medical Community Connections Grant is Meals on Wheels SA - Mount Gambier branch.

I met briefly with the lovely team this morning and got to learn a little more about what they do locally, and there is honestly so much that goes on behind the scenes.

Meals on Wheels has been operating in Mount Gambier since 1964. They currently have approx. 200 volunteers, and they prepare around 150 meals, every day, 5 days a week - servicing both Mount Gambier and Port MacDonnell.

Their meals are available for delivery or collection and can be adjusted depending on requirements. They cater for different dietary and texture, inclusive of Texture Modified Diets, gluten free, lactose free, vegetarian and all of their meals are diabetic friendly (and look/smell delicious!)

Their clients include older people, people living with a disability, people recovering from illness or injury, or anyone who finds it difficult to cook or shop for themselves.

They work closely with NDIS, My Aged Care, Home Support and Commonwealth Seniors for meal packages, as well as offering private options.

Something we also learned this morning is that they are looking for more volunteers - more hands on deck makes for a lighter work load on the incredible people who are already doing so much.

Volunteers can help with meal preparation from 7.30am-11am or deliveries from 11am to 1.30pm. Both men and women are very welcome and encouraged to apply.

If you, or someone you know, would like to volunteer, arrange meals or find out a little more about what they do, please reach out to them:

We are very happy to have Meals on Wheels Mount Gambier as our very recipient and to be able to put our first Community Connections grant back into an organisation that has been supporting our community for more than 60 years.

Congratulations to their whole team for their wonderful effort!

IMPORTANT UPDATE TO BULK BILLING CONSENT

From Tuesday 21 July, Village Medical is updating the way we collect patient consent for bulk billed services.

This change will provide a more consistent and streamlined process for all patients while ensuring we continue to meet Medicare requirements.

If you're attending the clinic for an in person consultation:

Before you leave, our reception team will ask you to provide your consent using our Tyro terminal.

If you have a telephone appointment:

- Your GP will ask for your verbal consent during your consultation.
- You will receive an electronic consent request after your appointment via HotDoc
- If electronic consent isn't available for you, a member of our team may contact you to obtain the required consent before your Medicare claim is processed.

Why is this important?

Medicare requires your consent before a bulk billed claim can be processed.

If you receive an electronic consent request or are contacted by our team, we kindly ask that you respond as soon as possible. If we are unable to obtain the required consent, your consultation may need to be billed privately.

Thank you for your understanding and your cooperation as we have undertaken some trial and error to implement this updated process to continue providing high quality care to our community.

The following GPs are available for online bookings via HotDoc for patients currently registered with our clinic:

• Dr Sumaira Hussain
• Dr Elham Sabouri
• Dr Oliver Wesa
• Dr Marian Hakim
• Dr Keroles Mencaryous
• Dr Sooren Tadayyon Tahmassby
• Dr Hafiz Rizwan

Appointments can be booked online via the HotDoc app, or by visiting:

https://www.hotdoc.com.au/medical-centres/mount-gambier-SA-5290/village-medical-centre/doctors

If your regular GP does not appear on this list, they have chosen not to offer online bookings through HotDoc at this time. Please contact the clinic directly to arrange an appointment with them.

New patients are asked to please call or visit the clinic to arrange their first appointment. This allows our team to complete the required registration forms and request previous medical records where appropriate before your initial consultation.

We have both male and female GP's accepting new patients.

Thank you for helping us ensure your care is coordinated and your GP has the information they need.
