Come along to our Speechie night tonight at The Neighbourhood Centre!

🗣 Outback speech pathologists are aiming to boost education through a community event in Mount Isa tonight.

👉 A group of North West Speech Pathologists are hosting the drop in session at the Neighbourhood Centre at 6pm.

🤝 The family-friendly event allows residents to ask local speechies about the profession, how to organise referrals, what milestones to look for, and how pathologists can support people across all ages.

💬 NWHHS Speech Pathologist Georgia Garvie said they are aiming to boost knowledge of the profession through the information night.

"Events like the one we're having tonight is a great opportunity to raise awareness of what speech pathologists actually do and the difference we can make," she said.

This is why we do what we do.

So children can use their voice when they want, how they want, and for whatever they want to say.

The AAC journey can often feel like a marathon rather than a sprint, but moments like these remind us that every step is worth it. Watching a child discover the power of communication is something truly special, and as speech pathologists, we’re so grateful to be part of that journey. ✨

🗣️ Updates from The Speechie Hub 🗣️

Last week, we said goodbye to our wonderful Speechie, Georgia, as she embarks on her next adventure! 🌟

Georgia has been a valued part of The Speechie Hub team for the past 2½ years, and during that time she has made a lasting impact on so many children, families, and our team. We are incredibly grateful for her dedication, kindness, and passion, and we wish her all the very best in this exciting new chapter. Thank you for everything, Georgia, you’ll be greatly missed! 💐

As many of you know, Grace continues to provide services in Mount Isa and Cloncurry on a fly-in, fly-out basis every fortnight at The Speechie Hub while also working at Cassowary Coast Allied Health Hub.

At this stage, Grace’s caseload is at capacity in Mount Isa and Cloncurry. As a result, our waitlist is closed, and unfortunately we are not accepting new referrals or clients for the foreseeable future.

We understand this may be disappointing for new families seeking services, and we truly appreciate your understanding and ongoing support.

As for our current clients, it is business as per usual and we will see you all next week to begin sessions for Term 3! 🫶🏼

🎉 We have some AAC trials happening in our Mount Isa clinic! 🗣️💬

AAC stands for Augmentative and Alternative Communication and includes a range of tools that help people communicate. This might include communication apps, speech-generating devices, picture boards, or other communication supports.

Communication is about so much more than just words and AAC can help children and adults:
✨ Express their wants and needs
✨ Share their thoughts and ideas
✨ Build friendships and relationships
✨ Participate in everyday activities at home, school, and in the community

During our AAC trials, we work closely with individuals and their families to explore different communication options and find the best fit for their strengths, goals, and communication needs.

We’re excited to help our clients discover new ways to connect, communicate, and be heard! 🗣️

Happy Term 2! We’re so excited to welcome all of our wonderful clients back to the clinic and into schools this week. 😊💫...

💫 Professional Development Update 💫
Georgia recently travelled to Adelaide to complete training in orofacial myology with the Australian Orofacial Myology Collaboration (AOMC). This specialised area focuses on the assessment and treatment of oral and facial muscle function, including breathing, chewing, swallowing, and speech patterns.

This additional training has further strengthened Georgia’s skills in supporting a wide range of client needs, and she’s looking forward to bringing this knowledge into her sessions to continue providing high-quality, evidence-based care.
