The word โ€œghostingโ€ started off as some kind of joke when someone just disappeared and somehow weโ€™ve gone from that to ghosting becoming normal.

Weโ€™ve started treating ghosting as an acceptable way to end a relationship or connection instead of having a difficult conversation.

People have always avoided difficult conversations. The difference is that now we have a name for it and excuse instead it instead of just calling it out for what it is!

Then you have society putting labels on it, justifying it as โ€œjust being avoidant.โ€ Having an avoidant attachment style explains why communication is hard for you. It does NOT exempt you from basic human decency. Avoidance may explain the behaviour, but it doesnโ€™t excuse it.

Twenty years ago, like I said in the talk, none of this happened. People told you why they were breaking up with you or why they couldnโ€™t be with you. Yes, it still hurt, but at least you knew the reason.

You werenโ€™t questioning yourself, chasing closure, confused, or left wondering wtf happened because the person had the decency to explain and you could move on. It doesnโ€™t mean you were happy about it, but at least you had an answer.
