𝗦𝗰𝗼𝘁𝘁'𝘀 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆: 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝘂𝗹𝗹 𝗖𝗶𝗿𝗰𝗹𝗲

After a severe motor vehicle accident resulting in a traumatic brain injury and over a decade of complex recovery, former teacher Scott is rebuilding his life.

Today, he’s living independently, smashing daily 6am gym classes, and even conquering public speaking at Toastmasters. It’s been a challenging decade but Scott feels he has now come full circle by reintegrating into the community and getting back to the activities he loves.

Scott hopes to offer encouragement to others navigating a long-term rehabilitation process, “It’s tough, but keep battling on."

Meet Lauren 👋

Lauren graduated from Monash University in 2025 and has come to us after some time working within the aged care sector. She is passionate about delivering client-centred care and believes that every individual has unique goals, values, and life experiences that should be respected and incorporated into therapy.

Lauren enjoys working collaboratively with clients, families, and multidisciplinary teams to develop practical and meaningful solutions that support independence and quality of life, which is what we are all about! 💫

Coming from a highly active background in sports, I’ve always valued how physical activity and routine impact our overall well-being. I know how important it is to be able to do the things you love, and I wanted to dedicate my career to helping people get back to those meaningful activities.

𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝟯 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻 𝗢𝗧?
♥️ The challenge of problem solving and adapting environments, tools, or tasks to fit a client's unique needs.
♥️ Building connections and developing strong, trusting, and collaborative relationships with clients and their families, which is incredibly rewarding.
♥️ There is nothing quite like witnessing milestones and seeing the "aha" moment or the smile on a client's face when they achieve a goal they thought was out of reach.

My fondest memory was during a previous role when I was working with a client to find the right powered wheelchair. After exploring several options that weren't quite the right fit, we persisted and finally found the perfect powered wheelchair. While I was speaking with the client's family, I looked over to see the client having the time of their life - doing donuts and wheelies in the new wheelchair! It was such a joyful and hilarious moment. More importantly, being able to help that client feel empowered and regain a level of independence they once thought was impossible is exactly why I love this work.

Meet Emily 👋

Emily has come to us as a new grad, from her Bachelor of Occupational Therapy at Australian Catholic University (ACU) in 2025. Emily has a strong interest in neuro rehabilitation, in particular stroke and traumatic brain injuries. She is drawn to the complexity and rewarding nature of supporting clients through recovery.

Emily is dedicated to forming strong client relationships and supporting them to achieve their goals. And we are looking forward to seeing her grow with us at IRS. 🌱

I wanted a career where I could help people. OT seemed like the perfect fit for me as it allowed me to help people do the things that they needed to and love to do.

𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝟯 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻 𝗢𝗧?
♥️ Seeing the progress and improvements that people can make throughout OT sessions.
♥️ The complex nature of OT and that no individual or case is ever the same.

𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗢𝗧 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿?
During my final university placement in sub-acute rehabilitation, I had a complex patient, diagnosed with Wernicke encephalopathy. I got to work with him for 7 weeks, implementing memory strategies, resources and gathering supports for home. He was discharged home and OT at Home reported that he was doing really well and using the memory strategies I had put in place for him. The whole experience was really rewarding and I loved seeing how much impact we can have on peoples lives.

June is Aphasia Awareness Month! 💙

Aphasia is a language disorder that can affect a person’s ability to speak, write and understand language - often after a stroke or brain injury.

Every single day, we have the privilege of working with incredible clients who are working hard, breaking barriers and making great gains in their communication journeys. Their resilience inspires us daily!

This year’s theme is , and we are proud to stand together with our clients, their families, and the global community to raise our voices. When we understand Aphasia, we build a more inclusive, patient and connected world.

Today is World MS Day, and this year’s theme is Diagnosis. 📝

Because MS impacts the central nervous system in ways that are often invisible, early and accurate diagnosis is vital - it’s the key to better treatment and quality of life outcomes.
