Meet Dr Luke Chen, a new member of our Monash Health Neurology Department and one of three neuro‐otologists in Victoria.

At Monash Health, a significant part of Dr Chen’s role will be setting up a unique neuro-otology service, a subspeciality of Ears, Nose and Throat (ENT) and Neurology.

“I am thrilled to be able to provide a service dedicated to caring for those with a hearing and balance problem at Monash Health,” said Dr Chen.

“We will soon be able to offer a new ‘dizzy testing’ service, which means patients can have the specialist testing required for the diagnosis of dizziness and vertigo at Monash Health. The service will foster collaboration between the Neurology and ENT departments, bringing together the expertise of both specialties”.

As well as setting up the new service, Dr Chen will participate in the care of Neurology inpatients and perform clinical and translational research.

“Research and clinical care are closely interrelated. It is always about bringing new research findings from the bench to the bedside and then taking a new bedside problem back to the bench for more research,” said Dr Chen.

“The practice of neuro‐otology has evolved over the last 30 years. In the past, we only had tests to diagnose and treat dizziness in the laboratory, and now, we have them at our fingertips.”
