I prefer the highlight reel.
Small breaks. The best spots.

I could share about my current projects. Interesting local community ones, or the online business management work i'm doing for clients in far flung places. Or the web development course I've been studying, and how I might slowly weave that into my business this year.

But life is busy. Doing the work and not talking about it so often.

But I'm here. And when I stop to take a break from your work and wrangling the sporting life of my children - these are the things I'm doing.

It's what matters to me.

I'm tiring from the AI slop on these platforms and spending less time here overall.

So many posts are manufactured, with manufactured engagement. The bots are speaking to each other - and consequently speaking to noone.

Which is not the marketing strategy I recommend to clients.

There's a power in social media that goes beyond the trends, the tech and the tacky.

The human connection, a direction were being steered away from, yet increasingly turning towards once more.

My wise words for 2026:

The bots aren't buying. Be human.

These recommendations are nutritionally inferior and if followed will achieve their desired results by the people funsing the research- but guess what?

We won't be healthier.

A gentle reminder to keep open the figurative and literal doors of opportunity away from social media.

Social media may help you find the nooks and crannies of less obvious opportunity, but it's rarely a fairytale quick-win, and keeping one foot in reality is always a good choice!

Yes, I've studied and practice in the world of social media marketing. But nothing is ever the be and and end all, and if it were, real life human connection would be the winner at the end of the day.

Don't ignore the potential at your door.

Networking, collaborating, serving. Within your network, in your community, the fairy door of word-of-mouth and referrals.

It can be easy to overlook with our recent scroll-on conditioning. But it's always there.

As the online world becomes saturated and everyone wants a piece of pie, it's important to remember the in-real-life communities we are part of, who may need the exact thing we can help with.

Wednesday antics...

If you're focussed on the algorithm, the platform, the trends and the dance, it is fleeting.

We get caught up in what matters less, which steals our time and focus away from what matters more.

Fast and dirty marketing, quantity vs quality using all the tricks in the book and the upcoming tools may not be what you need - if your clients are sick of that s**t, and want something real, purposeful, valued and aligned.

The platforms set the standard for what is trending- but we're not a homogenised world (yet 😬🙃). What you think is trending can at the same time be totally cringe (hello recent out-of-touch politician reels).

If your audience is craving a dose of reality that's increasingly being lost from this place - give them that.

Show how your business or service meets their need, rather than just playing the game for likes.

Connect as the human you are, rather than your bot wannabe - remember, we all have a BS meter beneath the surface that notices...

Spring is not far away!

The day the almond tree blooms is one of the quietly anticipated days in my annual calendar - a simple joy that I look forward to every year.

But unlike my kids meticulous countdown to Santa's visit - each year this day usually catches me by pleasant surprise.

The first sign of changes coming. I think the day is nearly here. The birds are very chirpy today, I think they know too 🐦🦜🕊

We went South for a few days when most go North.

Tying together work trips, catchups and sports carnivals in a busy school holiday week and testing the camper in Winter... passed the test except for getting bogged at Mum's! 😬
