New Medicare Changes

From 1 July 2026, Medicare are introducing new requirements for patient who have received bulk billed consultations.

What are the new changes?

From 1 July 2026 you will now be required by Medicare to give written consent for your face to face and telehealth appointments, previously verbal consent for telehealth was accepted.

Consent can only be given by the patient themselves, a parent or carer if the patient is under 15 years of age or a carer, parent, partner, friend, relative or a person with Power of Attorney for patients who are unable to sign.

How the changes effect you as a patient of the Narromine Medical Centre?

Our current face to face consult procedure will continue to stay the same but our telehealth procedure will slightly change to stay compliant with the new Medicare rules.

After you have finished your telehealth appointment you will receive an SMS from Hotdoc asking you to follow the prompts and consent to the Assignment of Benefit (AOB).

It is extremely important you give consent promptly after your telehealth appointment has ended.
