Weight loss shouldn’t feel like a constant battle with food.

With so much conflicting information about what we should and shouldn’t eat, it’s hardly surprising that many people feel overwhelmed before they even begin.

Low carb. Low fat. Keto. Fasting. Calorie counting. High protein. GLP-1 medications. Supplements. Microbiome strategies…

The “food noise” can become deafening.

When I work with someone who wants to lose weight, one of my first goals is to quieten that noise.

I like to create a simple, individualised eating plan that removes much of the daily decision-making, while also looking at the physiology that influences appetite, satiety and body composition.

And there is some fascinating research emerging around the gut microbiome, GLP-1 and other signals involved in appetite and satiety. Certain foods, fibres, botanicals and microbial metabolites may help support these natural pathways.

But sustainable weight loss is about more than suppressing appetite.

It’s also about preserving muscle, supporting metabolic health, eating well and creating a way of living that you can actually maintain.

You don’t need another complicated set of rules.

Sometimes you need a clear plan, the right support and someone to help you filter out the noise.

That’s where I can help.

I can’t wait to share some of the gems revealed at the symposium.

GLP-1 agonists definitely have their place, and the potential health benefits can be tremendous. However, there is so much more to consider, and their use really does require a holistic approach.

Some of my biggest takeaways:

• The importance of protecting muscle mass and bone integrity during weight loss.
• How we manage body composition after GLP-1 agonist use — not just while taking them.
• The potential risks associated with stopping and restarting these medications, and why a longer-term strategy matters.
• Fascinating research into botanicals and postbiotics that may positively influence GLP-1 and other pathways involved in satiety, metabolic health and appetite regulation.

The message for me was clear: it’s not simply about losing weight. It’s about improving health and body composition — and having a strategy to maintain those benefits long term.

Lots more to come on this topic.

OR IS THERE ANOTHER LAYER?

Does your fatigue come with significant physical symptoms?

For example:

• Post-exertional malaise — feeling substantially worse after physical or mental activity
• Muscle heaviness or weakness
• Muscle and joint aches or pain
• Headaches
• Unrefreshing sleep
• Brain fog
• Sensitivity to light, noise, smells or other stimuli
• Feeling as though your body simply cannot recover

This pattern warrants further investigation and may raise the question of ME/CFS (myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome) or another underlying condition.
BURNOUT AND ME/CFS ARE NOT THE SAME THING

There can be considerable overlap in how people describe their exhaustion.

One particularly important distinction is post-exertional malaise (PEM).

With ME/CFS, even relatively minor physical, cognitive or emotional exertion can cause a disproportionate worsening of symptoms — sometimes delayed until later that day or the following day — with recovery taking days or longer.

That is very different from simply feeling tired after a busy week.

DON’T JUST PUSH THROUGH

Long hours and ongoing stress can certainly leave you exhausted. But if your fatigue has become persistent, is worsening, or is affecting your ability to function normally, it may be time to look deeper—even if routine medical tests appear normal.

Rather than simply asking:

“How can I get more energy?”

I prefer to explore:

“What is draining your energy—and why aren’t you recovering?”

That’s where we start looking under the hood.

Safe, effective, targeted strategies to counteract inflammation is the way to go.

Inflammation is often thought of as something that causes aches and pains, but its effects can run much deeper.

This week on the Floralia Journal, I’m exploring how chronic, underlying inflammation can quietly accelerate ageing and increase the risk of many chronic diseases—often years before symptoms become obvious.

In the article, I explain why it’s so important to look beyond symptom management, investigate the underlying drivers of inflammation, and take proactive steps to support long-term health.

If you’re ready to better understand your own health, or you’re looking for support for the man in your life, I’d love to help. Head to the Floralia Journal to read the full article, and if you’d like to discuss your health goals, you can book a complimentary 10-minute discovery call with me.

Are you an “inflamed male” or have one in your life? This blog is for you.

This week on the blog, @diane_pascoe writes about all things inflammation and how it relates to the men in our lives. "Inflammation is not managed through one magic supplement or a single"detox"" she writes.

The most effective approach is a cumulative anti-inflammatory lifestyle medicine approach that involves:

↠ reducing ultra-processed foods and excess sugars
↠ improving gut health
↠ reducing visceral fat
↠ supporting healthy testosterone levels
↠ improving sleep quality
↠ increasing movement and resistance exercise
↠ managing stress
↠ incorporating anti-inflammatory foods, herbs and nutrients

Always “on” is exhausting the nervous system.
Over time it can show up as anxiety, burnout, gut issues, poor sleep, and hormonal imbalance.
Then when things finally slow down… your body doesn’t know how to.
This is where I live to help.
