Congratulations to Jisha Varghese, who was awarded Preceptor of the Month for WA!

This award recognises team members who are nominated by the students they support for going above and beyond in supporting their learning and clinical development.

One student said Jisha's "patience, professionalism, and commitment to my growth made a significant impact on my confidence and clinical development."

Well done Jisha, we are very lucky to have you working with our students here at Hollywood Private Hospital!

We are very proud to announce that our Cardiac Rehabilitation Program has been recognised as a Service of Excellence at the Australian Cardiovascular Health and Rehabilitation Association's Annual Scientific Meeting!

We were honoured to receive a trophy after being named among the top six cardiac rehabilitation services in Australia.

Of approximately 300 cardiac rehabilitation services nationwide, only 42 achieved Service of Excellence status. We are especially proud to be the only Western Australia service and the only private hospital service represented in the top six.

This recognition is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and passion of everyone involved in our program here at Hollywood Private Hospital.

A huge congratulations to our cardiac rehabilitation team on this amazing achievement!

Investing in our nurses means investing in our patients, our teams and the future of healthcare, and this program helped our clinical nurses to strengthen their leadership capabilities, grow in confidence, and further develop the skills needed to support their teams and patients.

Congratulations to all our participants – we are incredibly proud of your commitment, enthusiasm, and engagement during the six sessions!

We are very proud to introduce Sheeba, our first Nurse Practitioner in Cardiology here at Hollywood Private Hospital 🎉

A nurse with 25 years of experience, Sheeba has achieved incredible growth in her career since joining us in 2012, beginning as a Registered Nurse before progressing to Clinical Nurse, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Area Manager and Clinical Nurse Manager in CCU.

She also completed her Master of Nursing (Nurse Practitioner) before stepping into her current role, where she provides advanced care for patients with cardiovascular conditions.

As a Nurse Practitioner in Cardiology, Sheeba cares for cardiac patients from admission through to discharge, and has the expertise to assess, diagnose, order and interpret investigations, prescribe medications, and coordinate care alongside our cardiologists.

"Every patient interaction is an opportunity to make a difference,' said Sheeba, "whether it's explaining a diagnosis, optimising treatment, supporting a colleague or mentoring the next generation of clinicians."

"I'm also continually learning from the incredible multidisciplinary team around me, and that's one of the things I value most about working at Hollywood."

When our team recently had the privilege of caring for 104-year-old Mildred Miller in the Lawrence McCarthy ward, they were thrilled to discover that Mildred is a relative of the very veteran the ward was named for!

Lieutenant Lawrence McCarthy was awarded the Victoria Cross for gallantry, initiative and leadership during a World War I battle in 1918 near Madame Wood, France, described by historian Charles Bean as "perhaps the most effective feat of individual fighting in the history of the Australian Imperial Force."

When Mildred was admitted here at Hollywood Private Hospital for a cardiac ablation, the team was struck by her warmth, gratitude and zest for life.

"Caring for Mildred was an absolute pleasure," Clinical Nurse Manager Chelsey said. "Her positivity, resilience and joy were truly inspiring, reminding us that age is no barrier to living with enthusiasm and grace. We are privileged to meet such remarkable patients each day.”

We’ve become the first private hospital in Australia to offer an advanced minimally invasive breast surgery technique for women who have inherited genetic mutations that increase their risk of breast cancer.

Dr Saud Hamza, the first surgeon in Australia to perform the keyhole procedure, was featured on 9 News.

“Women who carry certain inherited gene mutations often face difficult decisions about reducing their future cancer risk,” he said.

“This minimally invasive approach offers eligible patients an alternative surgical option that aims to reduce visible scarring, minimise tissue trauma and support faster recovery, while preserving the natural appearance of the breast."

Did you know we have an Orthopaedic Care Navigators program here at Hollywood Private Hospital, designed to ensure our joint replacement patients have a single point of contact to provide ongoing support and guidance throughout their journey?

The team works to make sure patients have an advocate and receive centralised support from their pre-operative education classes through to surgery and discharge. Their involvement can mean risks and complications are identified early, leading to improved clinical outcomes.

We established the program to take our service from 'good' to 'great', with early results showing improved continuity, transitions of care, and communication between care providers.

We're proud that the team presented at the Orthopaedic Nurses Association of WA Development Day to share their approach and learnings. We thank them for the compassionate care they provide every day to make our patients' journey as smooth and stress-free as possible.

Our team is deeply passionate about providing quality cancer care to the local community, and we're proud that some of the team chose to participate in Anna's Walk - a community fundraising event that's all about raising awareness for bladder cancer patients and their families.

The event reinforced how much our patients value the support from our BCG oncology nurses. Grace, Clinical Nurse Manager of Goldsworthy Ward here at Hollywood Private Hospital, said, “it was so touching to hear the appreciation for joining the walk with our patients."

We are very proud that 15 hospital beds we recently donated to Australian Doctors For Africa (ADFA) are bound for a hospital in Ethiopia.

Partnering on initiatives like this ensures we reduce waste and recycle equipment where possible, rather than having items end up in landfill.

"These beds are much needed," said the team from ADFA, "and Australian Doctors for Africa is grateful for the support and generosity of Hollywood Private Hospital."
