Bright socks with a big message 🧦✨

Today our North Metropolitan Health Service teams stepped into Crazy Socks 4 Docs Day, wearing their brightest, boldest socks to spark conversations about mental health.

Crazy Socks 4 Docs is all about breaking down stigma around mental health issues and reminding our healthcare community that it’s ok to seek support. Looking after our people is just as important as looking after our patients.

Across our sites, staff proudly pulled on their craziest socks, bringing colour, smiles and a shared commitment to supporting one another. 💙

Midwife Jolie sets her sights on the Olympic stage 🌟🏑

King Edward Memorial Hospital’s newly qualified midwife Jolie is chasing the Olympic dream with the Hockeyroos program, training with the Western Australian Institute of Sport ahead of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.

Since joining our midwifery graduate program earlier this year, Jolie has already made her mark, both in midwifery and on the field, earning a place on the Hockeyroos reserve team and making her pro-league debut in Tasmania, competing against Argentina, Ireland, China and Spain.

We’re incredibly proud of Jolie as she pursues her dual dreams. Good luck on the road to LA 💚💛

Happy birthday to Cancer Network WA (CNWA), which recently celebrated its 20th anniversary 🎉

From early beginnings, CNWA has grown from a small unit to now providing state-wide cancer support services for the Western Australian community.

Patients are supported at many points along their cancer pathway, including screening to prevent cancer and care coordination throughout their cancer journey.

CNWA also provides youth cancer services for people with cancer aged 15 to 25 years as well as psycho-oncology support, as part of its focus on providing the best care options.

The service recently held 20-year celebrations at its annual Cancer Network Forum.

Welcome to Makuru 🌧️ the coldest and wettest season in the Noongar calendar.

Across June and July, we see the landscape shift as rivers fill and wildlife prepares for the next season. Mali (Black Swan) begin pairing up, signalling the changes ahead. 🦢

Traditionally, Noongar people moved inland during Makuru and made bookas (animal skin cloaks) to keep warm as temperatures dropped.

We are proud to recognise the six Noongar seasons as part of our commitment to honouring the cultural knowledge and traditions of Noongar people.

As we move through Makuru, it’s a chance to reflect on the connection to Country, seasonal change, and the knowledge that has been shared across generations 🌿

We are highlighting the Noongar seasons, as one of the ways we recognise and celebrate events of cultural significance to Aboriginal people, as part of our focus on providing culturally safe services.

Today is World No To***co Day, a time to recognise and support anyone who has quit, is currently trying to quit, or is thinking about taking that first step.

Whether through ci******es or vapes, ni****ne can lead to dependence over time.

Many people think va**ng products are less harmful, but they still deliver ni****ne and can make quitting more difficult without support.

Quitting smoking or va**ng is a journey, and it often takes time. The right support can make a real difference.

As part of our commitment to staff wellbeing, we offer our people access to a free 12‑week course of Ni****ne Replacement Therapy. It's all about helping reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms, making it easier to take the next step.

We’ve started National Reconciliation Week with a meaningful first brushstroke 🎨🖌️

Yesterday marked the start of National Reconciliation Week, a time to deepen our cultural understanding, share stories and reflect on our collective journey toward reconciliation.

As part of the activities being held for National Reconciliation Week, an art workshop was held at Graylands, to bring staff together to explore culture, storytelling and creative expression. Participants created their own artworks while connecting through shared storytelling and learning how cultural knowledge is conveyed through Aboriginal art.

The art class is just one of a range of initiatives we are holding in in line with this year’s theme, ‘All In', encouraging all of us to learn, listen and play a part in bringing reconciliation to life.

With more workshops and activities taking place across our sites and in the community, there are plenty of opportunities for our people to get involved and continue the journey.

National recognition for our Clinical Documentation Specialists (CDS) 🏆

Congratulations to our CDS team, who were recently named Team of the Year at the Clinical Documentation Improvement Australia Awards.

The team was recognised for:
• Improving documentation culture that supports safer patient care
• Supporting clinicians through education and collaboration
• Driving timely, high‑quality documentation through proactive reviews

What started at NMHS nearly four years ago is now a CDS model used across WA Health, raising the bar for documentation quality statewide.

A special shout‑out to Denise Lou, Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist, who was also named Rising Star Award recipient. ⭐
