Some words stay with us long after they are spoken, and these did for me.
In early September this year, I attended The Heart of Healing self-compassion retreat in Bali, organised by Associate Professor Amy Finlay Jones, head of
One of the retreat leaders was therapist from Colombia, who teaches and trains internationally in compassion-based practices. Maria Paula describes compassion-based practices as “essential medicine for the world”, and she lives her life accordingly.
During a private conversation with me, she said something that hit home:
“Maintain your boundaries, so that you can keep loving”.
I want to share these words with you as a gentle reminder to tend to your own needs first, so that you can stay healthy, grounded, and able to fully care for yourself, and others. Or, to put it another way, in my words, you need to get your own match burning brightly, before you can light the way.
