Meet 7-year-old Vinnique, one of the first children to experience Perth Children’s Hospital’s newly upgraded 3T MRI machine.

Before his scan, Vinnique helped a toy giraffe take a turn through our “Mini Tom Kids” mini MRI – a fun way to build confidence and ease any nerves.

Our upgraded MRI technology delivers clearer images and faster scan times, supporting more accurate diagnoses and better outcomes for our young patients.

Just as importantly, it’s designed with children and families in mind, featuring an enhanced cinematic environment to create a calmer, more comfortable experience.

This $2.5 million upgrade, supported through the Medical Equipment and Imaging Replacement Program, ensures we can continue to deliver high-quality, safe and reliable care for children across Western Australia.

It’s National Burns Awareness Month!

Did you know that young children have thinner skin than adults, which means a burn can happen much more quickly. Hot noodles, soups and boiling water are amongst the top causes of winter burns in children and young people.

In partnership with Kidsafe WA , Perth Children’s Hospital recently hosted an awareness stall to highlight common burn risks in and around the home and how to prevent them.

Families had the chance to learn practical burn prevention and first-aid tips related to everyday items like hair straighteners, hot water, cooking, treadmills and fire pits.

Our youngest visitors also enjoyed fun, hands-on activities, plus a special visit from Mars the Dog and Freddy the Fire Engine, thanks to the Department of Fire and Emergency Services WA (DFES WA).

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to learn more about burns in children.

To learn more about National Burns Awareness Month and access helpful resources, visit the Kidsafe website: https://kidsafe.com.au/national-burns-awareness-month/

At just 3 years old, Archie was diagnosed with aggressive stage 4 neuroblastoma. After more than 18 months in hospital and lifesaving radiation treatment, he was left with lasting spinal damage and chronic pain that still affects him every day.

Now 17 and in Year 12, Archie is resilient, positive and focused on his dream of becoming a mechanic.

Through the 8 week Move to Improve program at Perth Children’s Hospital, Archie worked with a physiotherapist, dietitian and psychologist to rebuild strength, support his spine and regain confidence in his body.

“Move to Improve inspired him to look after his physical health again and reminded him that he can actually influence it,” his mum Claire said.

Later this year, Move to Improve will expand across all medical departments at Perth Children’s Hospital, giving more children and young people living with chronic conditions the chance to build strength, confidence and control over their health.

Move to Improve is funded by Perth Children's Hospital Foundation and the Stan Perron Charitable Foundation, with support from Principal Partner, Mineral Resources.

26/05/2026

At the Child and Adolescent Health Service (CAHS) we are proud to recognise and acknowledge National Sorry Day and National Reconciliation Week.

National Sorry Day is held each year on 26 May to reflect and ensure the history and experiences of the Stolen Generations are not forgotten.

We recognise this significant day for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and particularly for Stolen Generations survivors.

Following National Sorry Day, National Reconciliation Week is a time for Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation.

CAHS is hosting a series of events throughout the week where staff will come together, reflect and learn, because we believe connection to culture, family and community is what keeps our children safe and well.

CAHS is committed to providing culturally safe care across our services and improving health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people and their families.

We envision a future where all kids with cancer survive and thrive.

Launched this week, The WA Comprehensive Kids Cancer Centre brings together leading clinical care and pioneering research to give children and young people with cancer, timely access to world-class treatment right here in WA.

Marking a new chapter in childhood cancer care and research in WA, the Centre is a collaboration drawing on Perth Children's Hospital’s clinical excellence, the research expertise of The Kids Research Institute Australia and The University of Western Australia and generous funding support from the Stan Perron Charitable Foundation and Perth Children's Hospital Foundation .

For children with cancer and their families, like young Ace and mum Parissa, this Centre means that childhood cancer research and care are working hand in hand so that more kids can access less toxic, more effective treatments closer to home.

We are honouring our amazing volunteers this National Volunteers Week.

More than 525 volunteers contribute their time and energy to CAHS, providing more than 750 hours of support each week.

From welcoming families and helping them navigate our services, playing with children to bring smiles and comfort, and lending a supportive ear for families, our volunteers are invaluable.

Every volunteer’s contribution is appreciated, and we thank you for the time and care you share so generously.

We caught up with some of our most frequent volunteers – who collectively have donated a whopping 2,140 hours of their time in the last year – to say a special thank you for their dedication.

We could not do what we do without our volunteers 🧡

Celebrating 20 years of lifesaving care.

Today, on World Human Milk Donation Day, we’re proud to celebrate a very special milestone – 20 years of the Perron Rotary Express Milk (PREM) Bank, which has helped give vulnerable babies across WA the best possible start to life.

For two decades, the PREM Bank has provided safe, pasteurised donor human milk to premature and medically fragile babies at Perth Children’s Hospital and King Edward Memorial Hospital when their own mother’s milk is unavailable.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of donors, the PREM Bank supports up to 400 babies each year, with around 1,000 litres of donor milk carefully screened, processed and distributed by clinicians, scientists and support staff.

Today we say thank you to our donors and teams for their continued commitment to improving outcomes for our more vulnerable patients.

If you’re a breastfeeding mother with surplus milk, you could help support babies and families during their most vulnerable days.

Find out more about becoming a donor: https://cahs.health.wa.gov.au/Our-services/Neonatology/The-Perron-Rotary-Express-Milk-Bank
