🐢🌷Let's Meet Community Services Client Pauline 🐢🌷

Say hello to Pauline!

Pauline has been a Community Services client for the past 4 years. She didn’t want her photograph featured so she said her lovely 10-year-old dog Sasha could stand in for her portrait.

One of Pauline’s pride and joys is her flower garden. Out at her property, she has a plethora of beautiful flowers from Asiatic Lilies to pink hydrangeas.

Pauline was born in Moonah and lived in New Norfolk for 80 years before moving out to Lachlan where she currently resides with her pup Sasha. While living in New Norfolk, she worked at the chemist shop and recieved unofficial training. When the shop was sold, she moved on to work at the post office doing shift work.

Though Pauline loves tending to her garden, she noticed her legs were getting sore and decided she needed to contact Corumbene to receive support at home for certain tasks. Now, she is able to receive care at home in Lachlan, continue with her gardening, and live the way she wants.

πŸ’œ World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is Today πŸ’œ

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is a globally recognised day annually on June 15th. This day was created by the United Nations to bring awareness to this issue. This year COTA (Council On The Ageing) Tasmania has been organising walks around to show support and raise awareness.

Today, 1 in 6 people in Australia experience elder abuse. This could be psychological, social, physical, financial, or others. It's important to bring awareness to issues like this as our population ages and protect older people and remember lifelong respect. To show your solidarity for lifelong respect, be sure to wear purple and talk about these issues.

If you'd like to learn more about this issue, please visit https://cotatas.org.au/events-and-activities/world-elder-abuse-awareness-day

πŸ‘§πŸ‘©β€πŸ¦³ Having a Blast with the St Brigids LUDO Class πŸ§’πŸ‘΄

Our Corumbene residents are an active bunch, and they love to bring this energy every month when they spend the morning with kiddos at St Brigids LUDO class. Each month, our residents and the LUDO students meet up either at the residential facility or at St Brigids school for a morning of fun, games, activities and laughs.

Now that the weather is getting colder, many of the activities are inside. During one of the most recent occasions, the residents stopped by the school and the kiddos had just finished playing outside. The teachers had set up different activity tables including using modelling clay, painting, learning about bugs and insects, and sifting through pebbles.

As you can see, everyone was having a great time and was able to enjoy each other's energies. After the activities finished, everyone had a nice morning tea before going their separate ways.

Here's to more fun and adventures together!

πŸ₯—πŸŸ Lunch Out on the Town πŸ₯—πŸŸ

Despite the chilly weather, our residents are still keen for a yummy lunch out and our Wellbeing & Lifestyle team have a great list of places to take the residents to. This most recent time, the group had a delicious meal at the Carlyle Hotel near Glenorchy.

Everyone got to sit by the large windows and enjoy a bit of sunlight as they ate their meals. Many people opted for the classic fish & chips or chicken schnitzel & chips while a few folks had large soups and salads.
