The (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) vaccine is now available FREE at Blooms The Chemist New Norfolk for aged 75 years and over.

RSV can cause serious illness, particularly in older adults, leading to pneumonia, hospitalisation, and other complications. Vaccination is an important step in helping protect your health and independence.

At Blooms, they initiate and administer all National Immunisation Program and vaccines free of charge. This includes RSV, shingles, and pneumococcal vaccines for those eligible. Also includes pregnancy and school catch up vaccines. They vaccinate children for flu above 2 years old and for other vaccines from 5 years and above.

📣🛠 Give Us Feedback for Master Planning 📣🛠

As many of you will remember, we are planning for Corumbene's future by working on updates to our Master Plan design. As we work with our architects, we want to make sure we get your feedback as residents, relatives and volunteers throughout various steps in the process.

We will be hosting 2 feedback sessions in September so that our architects can update you on details and give you a platform to give us feedback. The first session will be during the regularly scheduled Residents & Relatives Forum on Wednesday, 2 September at 1:30pm in the Multi-Purpose Room. If you're unable to make that session, we will also be hosting a second meeting on Monday, 7 September at 2:30pm in the Multi-Purpose Room.

💻📱Be Sure to RSVP For Scams Awareness Session 💻📱

Next week on Thursday, 27 August from 12pm - 1pm at the Rural Primary Health meeting room on the 1st floor of Derwent House at the Health Hub on the Avenue in New Norfolk, Rural Primary Health will be hosting an information session about scams awareness. This session is in partnership with Building in Tasmania - CBOS and is free for anyone to attend. During this session, you'll learn about ways to spot common scams and how to protect against them.

💚🍰🎈 Happy 60th Anniversary Corumbene 💚🍰🎈

Today, August 15th is the 60th anniversary Corumbene opening its doors in New Norfolk. In honour of this historic moment, we held a celebration yesterday at our Lower Road residential facility in the Multi-Purpose Room. Residents, community members, staff, volunteers, past and present board members, local politicians like Rebecca White and Mayor Michelle Dracoulis, and more joined us for this great occasion.

The afternoon celebration started off with everyone getting settled in, finding a spot to sit, getting a cuppa and a bite to eat, including incredible jelly cakes by our very own Liz Stevens, delicious The ArtHouse New Norfolk platters and scones from The Quilted Teapot, while chatting away with friends old and new. The room was decorated with Corumbene green balloons and streamers and historical placards dotted on the walls.

Once everyone had arrived, Chief Executive Officer Alison Standen started off by giving a lovely speech about Corumbene and before letting the President of the Board Ross Carlyle give a speech. Ross beautifully described the history of the organisation these past 60 years. Alison then introduced Craig Farrell MLC who gave a delightful speech about his connection with Corumbene and the local Rotary Club. To complete the speeches, Alison spoke about her time at Corumbene and thanked everyone for joining us that day. She also highlighted how much these kinds of celebrations matter in a community like and the .

After all the speeches were given, Craig and Ross had the honour of cutting the delicious cake made by My Sweet Tucker. Everyone was able to enjoy a slice of the yummy and beautifully decorated vanilla bean cake and spend the rest of the event chatting and reminiscing together. Before leaving, everyone picked up the commemorative booklet about Corumbene's 60-year history and a branded vanilla bean biscuit as a souvenir.

🍬🍫 Gather Around for Reading Circle with Lucretia 🍬🍫

At the end of July, we started a new activity with the residents. Our Wellbeing & Lifestyle Officer Lucretia wanted to create a new way to reminisce with residents and engage in interesting conversations through stories.

For her first Reading Circle, Lucretia brought in an image of the old Plaza Theatre that used to stand at 53 High Street in New Norfolk. The building was opened in 1932 and was a social hub for many residents who would go to see the latest pictures.

Lucretia passed the image around and started a conversation with the residents about what they remember about spending time at the old Plaza Theatre. Many of them spoke about how it used to cost 2 shillings to ee a film and how everyone would go there.

Any trip to the cinema includes some sweets so Lucretia brought out some classics including Jaffas and Minties for everyone to enjoy while chatting. The conversation moved on to everyone discussing their favourite films to see with family and friends, favourite movie snacks and naming other iconic cinemas in Tasmania.

The residents enjoyed the Reading Circle so much, they've asked for this activity to be a fortnightly occurrence, and each session will have a different theme. The next one will focus on "school days."

Anyone can be targeted for a scam, but making sure you know how to protect yourself, your loved ones and know the warning signs will ensure you can avoid being swindled.

Rural Primary Health has teamed up with Building in Tasmania - CBOS to offer a free scams awareness information session to those interested in learning about ways to spot common scams and ways to protect against them.
