One of the most common misconceptions we see with pelvic pain is this: If scans are normal, everything must be fine.

But pelvic pain isn’t always something that shows up on imaging. It’s often multifactorial, involving muscles, nerves, and the way the body and brain are communicating with each other.

This can look like:
• Pelvic floor muscle tension.
• Sensitivity in the nervous system.
• Pain that continues even after tissue has healed.

There are also conditions, like endometriosis, that aren’t always be visible on scans.

A belief we hear often is that pelvic pain is just part of being a woman. This isn't true. When pain is normalised, it can delay people from getting the support they need. We want you to know that pelvic pain deserves to be taken seriously and investigated.

Because pelvic pain can be complex, care often benefits from more than one perspective. At Brightwell Health, our clinicians work together when appropriate, helping you access the care that's right for you. Whether that's your GP, pelvic health physiotherapy, psychology or specialist care, our multidisciplinary approach means you're supported by a team, not just a single appointment.

If something doesn’t feel right, even with "normal" results, it's worth exploring further. Book your appointment online or call our friendly reception team on 02 4092 8000.

During National Pain Week, we're highlighting an important message: persistent pelvic pain deserves to be taken seriously.

Pelvic pain can be complex. It doesn't always have one clear cause, and it doesn't always have one simple solution. But that doesn't mean you should be left to manage it alone.

At Brightwell Health, we take a multidisciplinary approach to pelvic pain, with clinicians working together when appropriate to help you access the care that's right for you.

Book your care online or call our friendly reception team on 02 4092 8000.

National Pain Week is Australia's annual awareness campaign dedicated to shining a light on the experience of people living with chronic pain.

It's an opportunity to raise awareness, challenge misconceptions and encourage conversations about the impact pain can have on everyday life.

For us at Brightwell Health, it's also an opportunity to talk about pelvic pain. A form of chronic pain that is often misunderstood, overlooked or normalised.

When people hear "pelvic pain", they often picture pain itself. What they don't always see is everything that comes with it.

The constant calculations.
The routines you've changed.
The social plans you've cancelled.
The worry about when the next flare might happen.
The energy it takes to explain your experience to someone new.

Pelvic pain rarely affects just one part of your life. It can influence your work, relationships, movement, sleep, confidence and overall wellbeing.

This National Pain Week, we're reminding our community that persistent pelvic pain deserves to be taken seriously. It deserves to be acknowledged, investigated and supported.

If pelvic pain is affecting your daily life, we're here to help you start that conversation.

Book your care online or call our friendly reception team on 02 4092 8000.

If you're experiencing bladder leakage, pelvic floor concerns or symptoms of prolapse, Dr Vim Timba, our Urogynecology Specialist GP, is often the best place to start.

Whether you leak when you laugh or exercise, constantly need to rush to the toilet, wake multiple times overnight to urinate, feel a heaviness or bulge, or simply feel that something isn't quite right, Dr Timba can assess your symptoms, organise any necessary investigations and begin treatment where appropriate.

If specialist care is needed, she works closely with our urogynecologists, Dr Frida Carswell and Dr Lauren Ferris, through Brightwell Health's Urogynecology Shared Care Model.

This collaborative approach is designed to make your journey feel more connected, coordinated and supported.

Rather than navigating appointments and investigations on your own, your healthcare team works together to streamline your care and ensure everyone involved has a clear understanding of your treatment plan.

Importantly, seeing Dr Timba first is optional and is designed to enhance, not delay, your access to specialist care. If a urogynecologist is needed, your referral and management can already be underway, helping you feel informed and prepared before your specialist appointment.

If you're not sure where to start, start with Dr Vim Timba.

Book your appointment via our website online or call our friendly reception team on 02 4092 8000.

Bladder concerns can have a bigger impact on daily life than many people realise.

They can influence how you exercise, where you go, how confidently you move through your day, and even whether you laugh, cough or sneeze without thinking twice.

If you're experiencing bladder leakage, a frequent or urgent need to urinate, difficulty emptying your bladder, or symptoms of pelvic organ prolapse, you don't have to navigate it alone.

Dr Vim Timba, our Urogynecology Specialist GP, is often the best place to start.

She provides comprehensive assessment and management for bladder, pelvic floor and prolapse concerns, arranging any necessary investigations and commencing treatment where appropriate.

If specialist care is needed, Dr Timba works closely with our urogynecologists, Dr Frida Carswell and Dr Lauren Ferris, through Brightwell Health's collaborative urogynecology shared care model, helping to ensure your care is coordinated from the very beginning.

You don't need to know exactly what's causing your symptoms or whether you need a specialist before making an appointment. If something doesn't feel right, that's reason enough to start the conversation.

Appointments with Dr Vim Timba are now available. Book your appointment via our website online or call our friendly reception team on 02 4092 8000.

Our new Day Surgery Unit is now open!

Our Day Surgery Unit allows eligible patients to access selected procedures under twilight sedation in a safe, supportive and familiar environment.

Every patient's journey begins with a consultation, where your clinician will discuss your options, answer your questions and determine whether day surgery is appropriate for you.

If you're suitable, our team will guide you through every step of the process.

Current day surgery procedures include:

• IUD insertions and replacements (hormonal and copper)
• Pelvic floor injections
• Vasectomy

Today is International Non-Binary People’s Day!

At Brightwell Health, inclusive healthcare is part of how we care, every day. We are proud to stand alongside our non-binary and trans community and to provide healthcare where people are treated with respect, dignity and without judgement.

Our team provides gender-affirming cervical screening for trans men, hormonal implant insertion as part of gender-affirming care, contraceptive options for people of all gender identities, and STI screening and treatment, including PEP and PrEP.

We also recognise that LGBTQIA+ people can face very real barriers when accessing healthcare. Creating safer, more inclusive healthcare means understanding those barriers and continually considering how we can do better.

Everyone deserves to feel respected and supported when accessing healthcare. At Brightwell, that belief is central to the care we provide.
