It is recommended that people travelling during the influenza season receive a flu vaccine.

Australians who have received a current southern hemisphere flu vaccine and are travelling later in the year to the northern hemisphere during their flu season (usually October to May) may receive a second dose of the flu vaccine before departure.

Ask your GP about the recommended immunisations to stay healthy during your travels.

Protecting your baby against influenza starts when you're pregnant.

For every pregnancy and at any stage of pregnancy, it is safe and recommended for women to get a flu shot yearly. Changes to immune, heart and lung function during pregnancy can increase vulnerability to flu-related complications.

Getting vaccinated during pregnancy is also the best way to protect your newborn. By getting the flu vaccine, you pass on the protective antibodies through the placenta which protects them in their first few months of life, when they are most vulnerable and too young to have the influenza vaccine.

You can also ask your family GP if you have questions about your pregnancy and recommended immunisations.

Vaccination is the safest way to protect yourself and others from the flu.

Vaccination is highly recommended for people aged 65 years and over as they are at high risk of developing serious complications from flu. This is partly because our immune defence weakens as we age.

All adults aged 65 and over are eligible for a free influenza vaccine that is specifically made to boost the immune response for better protection.

Chat with your GP about getting a flu vaccination today.
