Traditions are important, and one of ours is to have our Christmas party at a sensible time of year. So last week, we had a delicious Christmas lunch, played some pinball and watched a film in a private cinema.

Please pay attention if you are in these health funds - AHM, Peoplecare, Defence, Navy. Your health fund optical benefits expire on June 30. So if you want to get some new specs using your rebate - book in very soon.

Please pay attention now if you are in any other health fund. Your benefits expire on December 31. This seems a long way in the future right now. However, it is not. The second half of the year goes by at double speed. So if you need any new glasses, book in soon before any end of year rush.

Happy Easter to everyone. I'm seen here with a Haigh's egg, that i was able to purchase by re-mortgaging the house.
You will be happy to hear that all staff are having a long weekend, and we will re-open Tuesday.

You might recognise this test for colour vision. 1 in 20 males have colour vision deficiency. Around 1 in 2000 females do too. This book helps diagnose. People with normal colour vision tend to see 8 and 29. The others see 3 and 70 usually.

Very occasionally when i ask "what number do you see here", a young person would say 2 and 3. Never an older person though.

2026 - big changes! We will now be called the Donald J Trump Memorial Eyecare Plus Optometrists Hamilton. This catchy name and future-focussed rebrand will ensure we make eyecare great again. It does mean that all glasses now have a 35% tariff, which will help set up a new practice in Greenland (or Iceland).

Also, we are closed this long weekend, and reopen on Tuesday morning.

Big shout out to my team for their hard work in 2025. Our optical dispensers Amanda, Sally, Therese and Abi have provided fantastic service, always with a friendly smile and some fun. Our optometrist Nick is "very thorough and knowledgeable" according to a recent - very accurate- review from a patient.
The practice has won some awards along the way too. These are business awards for the 140 Eyecare Plus practices around the country, and this one we have won 5 times now. You don't get these without the team being organised, hard working, with excellent communication. Thanks so much team!
