A week in one of our homes 🏠

No two weeks look the same, but they all feel like home. A cooked breakfast and off to the day program on Monday. Touch footy with the lads on Wednesday. A cook-up on Friday where everyone gets a job. A slow Sunday with family stopping by for a cuppa.

Support is there through all of it, quietly in the background.

That is what supported independent living looks like day to day ❤️

Big changes to how SIL is invoiced 📋

From 1 July 2026, SIL providers have to use a new support item when they invoice, and from 1 October plan managers have to reject invoices from providers who are not registered.

It sounds like admin, but it matters. It is the NDIS making sure the people supporting you meet proper standards.

It is one of the quiet things that makes a house feel like a home. Familiar people who know the routines, know the little things, and genuinely know the men they support.

What should a good SIL home feel like? 🏠

Like a home. Not a facility, not a ward, not a placement.

A kitchen someone can cook in. A couch worth fighting over. Housemates who feel like mates. Support that is there when you need it and out of the way when you don't.

If it feels clinical on the first visit, trust that feeling. A good home feels like a home from the front door ❤️

Who decides what support you get each day? 🤔

You do. Every plan starts with the person, not a template. Your routine, your goals, and the things you want to get better at all shape what support looks like day to day.

Some days that is a hand in the morning and your own space by lunch. Some days it is more. It gets worked out with you, then it flexes as life changes.

That is the whole idea of supported independent living. The support fits you, not the other way around ❤️

The small stuff is the whole point. That is what supported independent living is really about ❤️

What happens to your unspent NDIS funds? 💰

There is a change coming to how this works. Within your current plan, unspent funds still roll over between funding periods like they do now. The change is at plan level. When plans move to set end dates and renewals, leftover funds will not carry into the next plan.

The takeaway is simple. Use the funding you are given while your plan is active.
