📣 **NDIS Support Coordination Consultation – Have Your Say**

The NDIA is currently consulting on the future of **Support Coordination**, and participants, families and carers are encouraged to share their experiences and views.

If you or your family use Support Coordination, this is an important opportunity to provide feedback about **what works, what doesn’t, and what you need from Support Coordination in the future**.

We strongly encourage participants and families to make a submission and ensure the experiences of people living in **remote communities** are represented in the consultation.

👉 Find out more and make a submission via the consultation link below.

The site lists consultations that are run by the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing. On this site you can find, share or take part in consultations.

A little NDIS heads up for families with children under 7 đź’›

Something that many families don’t realise is that when children turn 6 (or transition out of the Early Childhood approach), their NDIS eligibility is reassessed.

Under the Early Childhood pathway, children can access support based on developmental delay or emerging concerns, sometimes without a formal diagnosis.

However, once transitioning to the standard NDIS access criteria (Section 24), the NDIA generally requires evidence of a permanent and significant disability. In most cases, this means a formal diagnosis is needed to continue meeting access.

I’m sharing this because I’ve supported a few families recently who were unaware this change was coming. Having early conversations gives families time to:
• Seek appropriate assessments (if clinically recommended)
• Gather updated reports
• Understand what evidence may be required
• Plan ahead without feeling rushed or pressured

Every child’s situation is different, and diagnosis should never be forced if it’s not appropriate. But being informed helps families make calm, supported decisions.

If you’re unsure where your child sits or have questions about transitioning from Early Childhood supports, feel free to reach out.

✨ Good news story from our Support Coordination work ✨

We recently received some really lovely feedback from a family we’ve been working closely with, and it’s a great reminder of why Support Coordination matters so much.

Together, we’ve supported the family to connect with a fantastic NDIS planner to re-assess their plan and look at some important changes, including replacement supports, home modifications, and increased STA (short-term accommodation).

Beyond the NDIS, we’ve also helped the family connect with local community providers and explore applying for a grant through Young Carers, who offer yearly grants of up to $10,000 to help people with disability remain supported in their home environment.

This experience really highlights that Support Coordination isn’t just about navigating the NDIS system, it’s about advocating, problem-solving, and building strong connections within the community to support the whole family.

Feeling very grateful to work alongside such resilient families and great providers 👏

To our Kids Hub family, we want to reassure you that we are aware of the current recall of coloured and kinetic sand products. We are following the safety guidelines issued by NT Worksafe to ensure safety of our clients, families and staff. While we do not have the products being recalled, we are disposing of all sand products as a precautionary measure.

We advise our families and all associated organisations to do the same.

🌟 Good News Story! 🌟

Our Support Coordinator recently worked with a lovely family of twin boys who both have a chromosomal condition located in a rural area with limited access to supports.

When we first met, the family shared that they had an AAC (communication) device they hadn’t been able to use for nearly two years, they just needed a little help getting it set back up. Together, we got the device up and running, the family and participants were over the moon!

We also supported the family through the process of obtaining a new NDIS plan that includes home modifications funding for a fully accessible bathroom, complete with funding for a project manager to make the process smoother!

It’s been wonderful to see the family feeling more confident and supported, with the right tools and environment to help their boys thrive! 💙
