While alcohol may seem like it offers temporary relief, it rarely addresses what's happening beneath the surface.

Over time, it can become another layer of the challenge, making it harder to process emotions, maintain relationships and move forward.

That's why recovery is about more than stopping alcohol. It's about understanding the experiences that led to it, developing healthier ways to cope, and building the confidence to move forward with the right support.

Through individual counselling, evidence-based therapies, group sessions and practical strategies for managing stress and emotions, we help guests develop the skills needed to support lasting recovery, not just while they're with us, but long after they leave.

Since 2018, Gunnebah has had the privilege of supporting veterans on their recovery journey.

As one former guest shared:

"The team made me feel supported in a time of my life that I thought the world was against me."

That feeling of being understood is something our experienced therapists and clinical team strive to provide every day. We know that asking for help isn't easy, but with the right people beside you, recovery can feel possible.

Take a look at our private rooms. đŸ›ŒđŸ»

When you’re going through something as personal as recovery, having your own space matters.

Each private guest is given their own room to rest, reflect and recharge in peace. It’s a small detail that makes a big difference—especially during the more challenging days of the program.

Being surrounded by nature helps, too. You’re not confined to a sterile environment. You’re free to step outside, breathe, and reset between sessions.

📍We’re located just 2km over the QLD border—an easy 2-hour drive from Brisbane and only 30 min from Gold Coast airport. Talk to us today.

Furry friends make the best therapy. đŸ¶đŸŽđŸ“

Our animals aren’t just part of the scenery—they’re part of the journey. Whether it’s a friendly dog by your side, a curious horse greeting you in the morning, or the calming presence of nature all around, our retreat is a place where connection goes beyond just people.

With one continuous path from beginning to end, labyrinth walking is a mindfulness practice used around the world to encourage reflection, reduce mental clutter and create space for emotional processing.

The labyrinth is one of many features within our program that complements therapeutic care. It provides guests with a quiet place to pause between therapy sessions, practise mindfulness, and reconnect with themselves in a calm natural environment.

Sometimes the first step isn't having all the answers. It's simply giving yourself the time and space to slow down, reflect, and recognise when it's time to seek support.

Living with constant anxiety can be exhausting.

Sometimes it shows up as constantly expecting the worst, struggling to relax, overthinking every decision, or feeling like you always need to be "on."

For some people, alcohol or other substances become a way to quiet that feeling, even if it's only for a short time. But when the effects wear off, the anxiety often returns, creating a cycle that becomes increasingly difficult to escape.

Breaking that cycle means more than removing the substance. At Gunnebah, we help guests understand how anxiety and substance use can influence one another while developing practical strategies to manage both.

The earlier you seek support, the sooner you can begin addressing what's driving the cycle, before it becomes even harder to break.

Speak with our team to learn how we can help you or someone you care about.

One of the biggest unknowns for many veterans isn't whether they need help. It's what treatment actually looks like.

At Gunnebah, each day combines structured therapy, physical activity, practical life skills and time to reset in a calm, supportive environment. There are individual sessions, group work, exercise, healthy meals and opportunities to reconnect with routines that support long-term recovery.

Our veterans program is designed to provide the structure, privacy and clinical support needed to focus on recovery without the distractions of everyday life.

If you'd like to learn more about our veterans program or discuss whether it's the right fit, our team is here to help.

If someone you care about doesn't seem like themselves, checking in could mean more than you realise.

You don't need to have all the answers or know exactly what to say. Sometimes simply listening, showing up, or encouraging someone to seek support is enough to help them take the next step.

This International Day of Friendship, we're reminded that kindness, connection, and being there for one another can make a lasting difference.

The line between helping and enabling isn't always obvious.

When someone you care about is struggling, it's natural to want to protect them or make life a little easier. But sometimes, those well-intentioned actions can unintentionally keep the cycle going.

Supporting someone doesn't mean carrying the weight on your own. It means encouraging healthy boundaries, honest conversations, and helping them access the support they need.

If you're unsure how to best support a loved one, know that guidance is available for families too.
