Creating a healthy and delicious meal when your kitchen is stocked full of health-promoting foods is not difficult.

When it comes to meal time, having easy access to plenty of real whole foods will make preparing and eating healthily a lot more enjoyable and convenient.

As a reminder, here are some of the whole food staples recommended by our Ellipse Health dietitians and found in their own kitchens:
-Eggs
-Meat and poultry
-Fish/Seafood
-Full cream dairy (cream/cheese/yoghurt - unflavoured and no added sugars)
-Vegetables (lower carb options include broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini)
-Whole fruits such as avocado, berries (lemons and limes for added flavour where needed)
Healthy fats (butter, tallow, coconut cream, olive oil)
-Salt

When you have these ingredients stocked and ready to go, a healthy balanced meal is just a moment away.

Remember - Healthy eating doesn't need to be complicated✅

At Ellipse Health, we are always telling patients to prioritise Protein at every meal. Why is this so important?

Proteins are ESSENTIAL for overall good health.

Proteins are the building blocks of our body and form our muscles, connective tissue, bones, hair, skin, nails, digestive enzymes, hormones, immune cells and more!

Protein foods are also highly satiating and help to curb hunger and low energy (which often results in people grabbing the nearest sugar fix, thinking this is what they need for an energy boost)

In addition, animal-based protein foods such as steak, eggs, seafood and cheese are some of the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet, helping to keep your body and mind at optimum health now and well into old age.

This is why, at Ellipse Health, we always ask our patients to prioritise proteins at every meal💪

At Ellipse Health the framework we use in our practice for developing dietary plans is as follows:

-Prioritise quality proteins including animal-based proten foods that are high in essential micronutrients.

-Fuel with fats from natural sources to meet your energy demands, including a cominbation of dieatary fat and stored body fat (eg olive oil, butter, coconut, avocado).

-Control carbohydrates according to individual tolerance, preference, and energy requirements (recommend lower carb fruit and vegetables).

-Eat mostly whole foods and minimise your intake of ultra processed foods!

Healthy eating doesn't need to be complicated😊

At Ellipse Health we love eggs and regularly encourage our patients to eat more!

A single egg contains high-quality protein, choline for brain health, Vitamin B12, selenium, iodine, vitamin A, and healthy fats. In fact eggs contain almost every nutrient your body needs.

They are also convenient, affordable, versatile and one of the most simplest ways to improve the nutrient density of a meal.

Try starting your day with a plate of scrambled eggs as this will carry you through until your next meal without you having to reach for a processed/sweet snack to curb any hunger pangs that might hit if you eat a less nutrient dense breakfast such as cereal.

It doesn't get much better than eggs🥚

“Eat less, move more” has been repeated for decades - despite strong evidence that it doesn’t work for long-term health or weight management.

Dr Jessica Turton, Director of Ellipse Health, has been featured in The Australian Weekend Magazine discussing why diets based on extreme calorie restriction continue to fail, and how a more metabolically informed, evidence-based approach can better support health.

“Eat More to Lose Weight.”

This feature reflects the philosophy we apply every day in clinic: supporting people to eat adequately, restore trust in their bodies, and move away from approaches that do more harm than good. ✅

With Christmas and New Year Festivities now in full swing, and Cheese Platters being one of the most popular items on the table we feel that now is a good time to remind everyone that, far fom being a "naughty food" Cheese is not only a good source of healthy fats and protein, it is full of vitamins and minerals which are essential to good health✅

The protein hit from the cheese will also leave you filling fuller for longer and, whilst we don't expect you to hold back on some of the sweeter treats at this time of year, you will be less likely to overload on all of those overly processed and sugary foods - the actual "naughty foods"!

So......enjoy, and don't forget to say "Pass The Cheese Please" (and if you love your fruit, don't forget to add some delicious berries for added Vitamin C)🧀 🫐

We hope you all have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year🎄 🎅

Whether you are just starting out on your health journey, or you have been on it for a while, you may be finding it hard to stay motivated if you are struggling to think of healthy snacks to keep those hunger pangs at bay.

It can be especially difficult at this time of year when there are so many sweet and processed Christmas treats on offer wherever you look!

Many of these supermarket "grab-and-go" snacks are full of sugar, carbs and/or nasty ingredients, and will often not satisfy your hunger for very long, making you more likely to reach for another quick snack of sugary treats or chips to keep you going until your next meal.

While we don't encourage snacking, we do understand that hunger can be hard to ignore, so here are some popular ideas for you to throw into the mix next time you are struggling to stay motivated and to keep you away from the less healthy options:

-cheese on it's own or with celery sticks, cucumber slices and avocado
-mixed berries with fresh cream or greek yoghurt
-hard boiled egg with salt and pepper to taste
-a couple of squares of dark chocolate (for when you need that sweet treat)
-a slice or two of cold meats
-mixed nuts
-coconut

These snacks can also be included in your platters as a healthy and tasty option when entertaining family and friends over the festive season 🎄🎅

Enjoy!
