"Will I bruise?" 💉

Bruising is a recognised possibility with injectables and doesn’t mean something has gone wrong. The face contains many small blood vessels, and occasionally one can be affected during treatment, even with careful technique.

If it happens, bruising is temporary and usually fades over several days to a week.

The capillary refill test is a simple clinical assessment that provides valuable information about blood flow to the tissues.

When treating with hyaluronic acid fillers, assessing capillary refill after treatment forms part of a comprehensive clinical assessment. It can assist in the early recognition of vascular occlusion, a rare but serious complication associated with dermal filler treatment.

Following treatment, we also provide patients with information on what to monitor at home, including changes in skin colour, increasing pain, delayed capillary refill, or skin that appears pale or mottled. Early recognition and prompt review are important.

Patient safety, informed consent, and appropriate follow-up are key components of cosmetic practice.
