Today is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, an important reminder of the need to protect the dignity, wellbeing, and rights of older people in our communities.

Every older person deserves to feel safe, respected, valued, and connected. Taking the time to check in on loved ones, listen, and offer support can make a meaningful difference.

At Tobin Brothers, we recognise the importance of compassion, respect, and care at every stage of life.

Following the State Funeral Service for Neale Daniher AO earlier this week, we wanted to take a moment to acknowledge and thank our incredible team.

It was a privilege to care for Neale and support the Daniher family in celebrating a life that inspired so many people. The scale of public interest surrounding the service was extraordinary, making it one of the most widely watched and discussed funerals in our history.

While the attention surrounding this service was unlike anything we have experienced before, the care, professionalism, and attention to detail demonstrated by our team were not. These are the same values they bring to every funeral, for every family, every day.

From our Funeral Directors, Arrangers, Mortuary Staff, Drivers and Support Staff, to the many others who worked behind the scenes, every person played an important role in ensuring the service reflected Neale's life and the wishes of those closest to him.

To the Daniher family, thank you for entrusting us with such an important responsibility. And to our team, thank you. We are incredibly proud of the compassion, dedication, and professionalism you continue to show families across our communities every day.

In 2015, just days before the very first Big Freeze at the MCG, Neale Daniher AO joined Rex Hunt on This Is Your Football Life to share his football journey, his MND diagnosis, and the vision behind what would become one of Australia’s most important fundraising campaigns.

At the time, Tobin Brothers made the decision to remove all sponsor credits from the episode, ensuring the focus remained solely on raising awareness for FightMND and encouraging Australians to get behind the cause.

Looking back now, this conversation serves as a powerful reminder of Neale’s courage, humility, and determination to make a difference for others, even in the face of his own battle.

As we approach this year’s Big Freeze event, we’re proud to revisit this special interview and honour the extraordinary legacy Neale leaves behind.

Today, many in our community are celebrating Eid al-Adha, an important occasion in the Islamic calendar centred on faith, compassion, generosity, and community.

Eid is a time for prayer, reflection, sharing meals with loved ones, and supporting those in need. It is also an opportunity to come together and strengthen connections with family, friends, and the wider community.

At Tobin Brothers, we recognise and respect the diverse cultural and religious traditions that help families honour life and create meaningful moments of connection.

We extend our warm wishes to all those celebrating Eid al-Adha.

Today we remember and honour Neale Daniher AO, a remarkable Australian whose courage, determination, and compassion inspired millions.

Known and respected for his contribution to football as both a player and coach, Neale’s impact reached far beyond the game through his tireless work leading the fight against Motor Neurone Disease.

Following his own diagnosis in 2013, he faced the disease with extraordinary strength and purpose, helping raise awareness and vital funds through FightMND and the Big Freeze campaign.

At Tobin Brothers, we have been proud supporters of Neale and the FightMND community over many years.

His ability to bring people together, inspire hope, and encourage meaningful action leaves a lasting legacy that will continue for generations to come.

We extend our sincere condolences to Neale’s family, friends, colleagues, and all those whose lives he touched.

Rest peacefully, Neale.

This week, many in our community are observing Shavuot, a significant Jewish celebration commemorating the giving of the Torah and the importance of faith, learning, and community.

Traditionally observed through prayer, shared meals, and time spent with loved ones, Shavuot is a time of reflection and connection for many Jewish families around the world.

At Tobin Brothers, we recognise the importance of cultural and religious traditions in bringing people together and helping families honour life in meaningful ways.

We extend our warm wishes to all those observing Shavuot.

Today, Tobin Brothers Funerals, in conjunction with Southern Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust, facilitated an information session and guided tour of the crematorium facilities at Springvale Botanical Cemetery. The tour was organised and attended by Tobin Brothers team members Barry, Phat and Julius.

Representatives from a range of faith and community groups attended, including St. Anthony's Parish, Noble Park, Resurrection Church Keysborough, St. James' Anglican Church Dandenong, St Aiden’s Noble Park, the Hindu Community Dandenong and Hillside, Slovenian Catholic Church Sts. Cyril and Methodius and the Vietnamese Catholic Community Springvale.

The tour provided an opportunity to better understand the cremation process and the care taken at every stage, from the arrival of the coffin through to the return of cremated remains to families.

Attendees were guided through the identification and documentation procedures, the cremation process itself, the handling and processing of ashes, and the management of metal implants following cremation.

A number of thoughtful questions were discussed throughout the session, helping to provide greater clarity and understanding around a process that is often unfamiliar to many people.

It was a valuable and informative experience for all involved, offering insight that can assist faith leaders and community representatives as they support families during challenging and emotional times.

Following the tour, guests shared a light lunch together and continued conversations about the support and facilities available to families at Springvale Botanical Cemetery.
