Bowel Cancer Awareness Month 💚

Bowel cancer is one of the most common cancers in Australia, with over 14,500 people diagnosed each year.

Risk increases with age, but it can affect people at any stage of life—including those under 50.

Some symptoms to be aware of include:
• Blood in your stool
• Changes in bowel habits
• Unexplained weight loss
• Ongoing fatigue

If you notice any changes or have concerns, it’s important to speak with your GP. Screening and early detection can significantly improve outcomes.

This month is a reminder to stay informed and take a proactive approach to your health.

Meet Chloe Kim 💚
Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner | Acupuncturist | Next Practice Parramatta

You’ve been told “everything looks normal”…
But you don’t feel like yourself.

You’re tired. Stressed. Not sleeping properly.
Maybe your body feels tense, out of balance, or just off.

And no one has really taken the time to connect the dots.
At Next Practice Parramatta, we exist for this moment.

Chloe uses acupuncture as a way to slow things down, creating space to listen to your body and understand what it’s been trying to tell you. Her approach is gentle, personalised, and grounded in helping you feel more balanced, supported, and back in tune with yourself.

Because being “fine on paper” isn’t the same as feeling well.

✨ If you’ve been putting this off, this might be your sign

Gluten-free chocolate & beetroot cake, made with care 💚

This week we were treated to a beautiful gluten‑free chocolate and beetroot cake baked by our clinical nutritionist, Lisa.

At Next Practice Parramatta, we believe nourishment is about more than food — it’s about care, intention and the people we love. This cake is rich, comforting and thoughtfully made to support wellbeing without compromising on joy.

Lisa has kindly shared the recipe below if you’d like to bake something nourishing for yourself, your mum, or someone who feels like family this Mother’s Day 💚

Wishing all mothers, carers and nurturers in our community a gentle and nourishing day 🌷

Chocolate & Beetroot Cake
Ingredients
325g dark chocolate
250g raw beetroot, peeled & grated
4 large eggs
150g allulose or monk fruit sweetener
120g almond meal
1 tsp baking powder
1 tbsp cocoa powder

Method
Preheat oven to 180°C. Grease and line a 20cm springform tin.
Melt 200g chocolate and set aside.
Separate eggs. Mix yolks with beetroot.
Combine sweetener, almond meal, baking powder and cocoa, then mix into beetroot with melted chocolate.
Whisk egg whites to stiff peaks and gently fold into mixture.
Pour into tin and bake ~50 minutes, until set. Cool completely.

Chocolate Ganache
Melt 125g dark chocolate with 60g unsalted butter. Cool slightly, then spread over cake.

Serve with Greek yoghurt if desired.

This recipe is based on one Lisa received from Mickey Robertson (Glenmore House).

Your health journey is personal, and protecting your wellbeing looks different for everyone. As we move closer to winter, now is a good time to think about whether the flu vaccination is right for you.

In Australia, flu season usually peaks between June and September, and the body takes a little time after vaccination to build protection. Having the conversation early can help you feel prepared and supported through the cooler months.

At Next Practice Parramatta, we take an integrative and person‑centred approach — supporting you to make informed choices that align with your health goals, your immune system, and your lifestyle.

💚 Speak with your Integrative GP to see whether the influenza vaccine is right for you.
