***SHOCK STATISTIC***
There was a story on The Project which highlighted that female cardiac arrest victims were 50% less likely to have CPR and defibrillation performed on them compared to men!

This story horrified us here at CK First Aid, so we did a bit of investigation as to why this statistic existed and to provide some accurate information.

1. Men were reluctant to perform CPR and use a defibrillator on women as they were worried they could be sued for sexual harassment.
Totally incorrect!! Here in Australia, we have the Good Samaritan Act which protects bystanders as long as they stay within their scope of practice and skills.
2. Bystanders were worried about causing embarrassment to the patient.
Believe me, patients do not have time to be embarrassed if they are having a Cardiac Arrest and would much rather have their life saved!
3. People were unsure of how to perform CPR on someone with breasts.
This is the only seemingly valid reason. BUT CPR technique is the same for everyone!
As a way of trying to educate and improve these numbers, and subsequently outcomes, for women having a cardiac arrest, CK First Aid will have a female manikin available to practice CPR and defibrillation on in all of our classes. We hope this means that people have the chance to ask questions in a safe environment and ensure that if ever faced with the possibility, they will be able to provide effective CPR and defibrillation to all patients no matter their gender.

Please see the link below to the interview conducted on the Project.

Comment below if this statistic shocked you too!

And that's almost another year wrapped up for Cool Kids First Aid and CK First Aid! Cool Kids First Aid and CK First Aid will be having a bit of downtime as of Friday 23rd December and back on Tuesday 3rd January, but we are available by phone, email or messenger during the break.

Angela and I would like to sincerely thank all of our wonderful clients and staff for another year of trusting us with providing First Aid programs for children and adults alike.

2022 was definitely not without challenges. Covid still played a major impact on our ability to deliver programs around the country due to border closures, both Angela and Tasch still continued to work at testing sites whilst delivering Adult First Aid classes where possible.

Staff recruitment was also under way and we found two amazing staff members to join our wonderful team Simone Walkden and Nicole Lawson. Jasmine Salafia, Tammy Somerville and Josie Saunders continued being brilliant as always!

Angela made her move to Brisbane and Tasch took over the Training Centre at Oakleigh full time.

Some statistics for 2022!

"What to do in an Emergency" 3-5 year old sessions delivered: 348!
First Aid Vacation Care Classes 5-15 year olds delivered: 139!
Hospital 4 Me Program delivered: 2!
That's a whopping 489 children's classes delivered despite Covid challenges and staff challenges. Huge effort!

Adult First Aid classes and students taught:
Simone (our newest trainer) - 9 course types and 12 students
Jasmine - 50 course types and 277 students
Angela - 317 course types and 862 students
Tasch - 621 course types and 1514 students

That's a total of 997 course types taught and 2665 students taught for accredited First Aid! Absolutely monumental effort from the entire team!!

From all of us at Cool Kids First Aid we wish everyone a very Merry Christmas, a Safe New Year, and some much deserved downtime over the break and we will be back in the New Year ๐ŸŽ„๐ŸŽ…
