Very normal iron results right ????

But if you’re wanting to makeh the babeh……🤰🏻These results ….they may not be optimal if you’re trying to conceive.

Here’s why:

Serum Iron: 12 µmol/L
This is on the lower end of the normal range. Serum iron fluctuates throughout the day, so it’s not the most reliable marker on its own.

Transferrin Saturation: 24%
This tells us how much iron is actually available to your tissues. For fertility, I generally like to see this above 30%.

Ferritin: 27 µg/L
This is the big one. Ferritin reflects your stored iron.

While the reference range starts at 25 µg/L, many fertility practitioners aim for at least 50–70 µg/L, and often 70–100 µg/L, before conception to support healthy ovulation and pregnancy.

Low iron stores have been associated with:

* Fatigue and poor exercise tolerance
* Hair loss
* Brain fog
* Poor egg quality😢😢😢
* Reduced ovulation😢😢😢
* Difficulty building a healthy uterine lining😢😢😢
* Increased risk of iron deficiency during pregnancy

Iron is essential for:

* Ovulation
* Egg development
* Oxygen delivery to the ovaries and uterus
* Healthy implantation
* Placental development
* Supporting your growing baby from the very beginning

Before reaching for an iron supplement…

Ask why your iron is low?????

Could it be:

* Heavy periods?
* Coeliac disease or gut inflammation?
* Low stomach acid?
* Poor dietary intake?
* Pregnancy depletion from previous pregnancies?
* Chronic inflammation affecting iron absorption?

Simply taking iron without addressing the cause often leads to temporary improvements before levels fall again.

What I’d investigate

✔ Full blood count
✔ B12 and folate
✔ Vitamin D
✔ Copper and zinc
✔ CRP (inflammation)
✔ Menstrual history
✔ Gut health and digestive function

The takeaway

If you’re preparing for pregnancy, don’t aim for “low-normal.” Adequate iron can make the world of difference…

Peri and ADHD. A passion project! The unmasking of ADHD in perimenopause is a brutal combination and has so many of my clients in tears on the daily.
We love medication 💊 when needed. But we love supporting that medication even more. Let’s provide the perfect scaffolding to support these little pills for this big wild and unruly time in our life.

I saw a quote once. Let’s thrive so hard in our 40’s that 20 year olds can’t wait to be 40!!!

POV: you’re a Naturopath… and your son has ADHD.

So no, I’m not anti-medication.
We’ve trialled medication.
And I’ll always support whatever genuinely helps him thrive.

But this is also what I focus on behind the scenes:

• Saffron → mood, emotional regulation, focus
• Folate → methylation, neurotransmitters, brain function
• Theanine → calmer nervous system without “switching him off”
• Choline → attention, memory, brain development

Because ADHD support isn’t always just about “calming a kid down”.
Sometimes it’s supporting a brain that’s burning through neurotransmitters, stimulation and nutrients faster than everyone else.

Not medical advice.
Just one naturopath mum trying to support her kid from every angle possible.
