Heat packs are a great way to keep warm but can cause serious harm when used incorrectly.

Extra care should be taken for those with fragile skin, such as young children and older people, as they can burn more quickly and at lower temperatures.

People with diabetes and people who have decreased sensation to their lower limbs are also at greater risk.

Follow these tips to stay safe and warm this winter.

Today is Crazy Socks for Docs Day. This is an initiative of Dr Geoff Toogood, following his own mental health experience, of breaking down the stigma around mental health issues in doctors and health professionals.

To help raise awareness, our staff have chosen to wear their funkiest, brightest, crazy, out there socks to work. How many of our socks can you can spot!

Today is World Hand Hygiene Day, an initiative led by the World Health Organization (WHO).

At its core, the 'SAVE LIVES: Clean Your Hands' movement is to ensure all health-care workers clean their hands at the right time and in the right way. WHO aims to ‘bring people together’ in support of hand hygiene improvement globally and aid the prevention of health-care acquired infections (HAIs).

Appropriate hand hygiene is an everyday duty for everyone, not just health care workers. Today is a good opportunity to acknowledge and revisit these practices to keep up to date with the requirements.

Happy handwashing everyone!
