π¨ PREGNANT? KEGELS ARE NOT THE ONLY MUSCLES YOU SHOULD BE TRAINING. π¨
Stop for 5 seconds β³
Everyone talks about the pelvic floor during pregnancy.
But almost nobody talks about your glutes and hips.
And that matters because as your body changes, your pelvis, hips and lower back are taking on a completely different load.
π©ββοΈ Dr Thanh (Chiropractor) from Vibrant Chiropractic Oran Park shares a simple exercise to help keep your hips and glutes strong during pregnancy.
π₯ The Banded Clam
π§ββοΈ Lie comfortably on your side
π€° Later in pregnancy, use a pillow to support your belly
π’ Place a resistance band around your legs
𦡠Keep your knees bent around 90 degrees
β¬οΈ Slowly open the top knee
β Keep your pelvis still
β Avoid rolling your whole body backwards
β¬οΈ Lower with control and repeat
Small movement.
Big job.
π‘ Why your glutes matter during pregnancy
As your belly grows, your centre of mass changes and your lower back and pelvis have to adapt.
Your glutes help:
π Stabilise the pelvis
𦴠Support the hips
πͺ Share load with the lower back
πΆββοΈ Support walking and everyday movement
π€± Prepare your body for the demands that continue after baby arrives
So while pelvic floor exercises absolutely have their place, pregnancy strength is bigger than one muscle group.
At Vibrant Chiropractic, we love helping mums understand how their whole body is adapting throughout pregnancy.
We do not just focus on the uncomfortable area.
We assess how your pelvis, hips, spine and movement are working together so we can support you through pregnancy with care that is tailored to your changing body.
