Three eye symptoms I never want you to ignore - because your retina can start detaching without any pain at all.

One: a sudden shower of new floaters. Not the familiar speck, but a rush of spots or cobwebs arriving all at once.

Two: flashes of light

Three things I'd never do to my own eyes - after years of operating on other people's.

One: sleep, shower or swim in contact lenses. Sleeping in them starves the cornea of oxygen, and water carries acanthamoeba, a rare organism that can burrow in and b

The fear is always bigger than the procedure.

Every time.

What actually determines which laser procedure is right for you? It’s not just one thing, your cornea, your prescription, your lifestyle all play a part. It’s not about which procedure is “best.” It’s about which one’s safest for your eyes.

Everyone focuses on the laser. But that’s not what determines your outcome.

The real decision happens before the laser even starts — which procedure is right for your eye, and which one isn’t. The best results don’t come from the technology. They come from choosing correctly, and that takes experience.

So the question isn’t “what’s the best procedure?” It’s “what’s right for your eye?”

Follow along, I’ll break down exactly what goes into that decision 👇

So who would actually choose PRK?

If your cornea’s thinner or there’s not enough tissue for LASIK or SMILE, PRK can be the safer option. Slower recovery, but the right trade-off for the right eye.

PRK is the only laser treatment where your vision can get worse before it gets better. Blurry, then clearer, then blurry again, some days good, some days not. That’s not a bad sign, that’s just healing.

So if that’s the recovery… why would anyone choose PRK?

Save this and I’ll break down exactly who it’s actually best for 👇

Fast recovery doesn’t mean it’s the right procedure for you.

Every technique treats the cornea differently, and that matters more long-term than how quickly you’re back to normal. The fastest option isn’t always the safest one for your eyes.

What actually matters is your cornea, your prescription, your lifestyle — and how all of that holds up over time. The goal isn’t just seeing well tomorrow. It’s still seeing well in 10 or 20 years.

Women are actually more likely to experience vision loss than men, and it's not just one thing.

Dry eye, cataracts, and macular degeneration all skew female, largely down to hormones, longevity, and higher autoimmune risk. Most of it is manageable when you catch it early.

“Does it hurt?” is the question I get asked more than any other.

Here’s the honest answer: it’s not pain, it’s pressure. A bit of light, a bit of movement, over in seconds. Almost every patient tells me the same thing afterwards — “that was way easier than I expected.”

So why is it still everyone’s biggest fear? Comment below and I’ll break it down 👇
