Sometimes we know we’re feeling something but finding the words can be surprisingly difficult. 💚

In therapy, we often explore the idea that many of our emotional experiences can be understood through a small number of core emotions:

Hurt • Sadness • Anger • Fear • Shame • Joy • Surprise

This beautiful image was created by a client after exploring this idea in session. By distilling our experiences down to the core it can be easier to understand them and share them, reducing their burden or sharing the experience.

Perhaps the question isn't:

"Why am I feeling like this?"

but first:

"What am I actually feeling?"

From there, we can become curious about what sits underneath the emotion, what we might need, and how we can communicate that to someone else.

Emotional awareness is a skill, and like any skill, it can be developed with practice.

All feelings are valid. All feelings are welcome here. 💚 Are there any emotions you experience that you think couldn't be described by those in this image? Share with us below.

In a world that often encourages us to protect ourselves by shutting down, staying open is a quiet act of courage.

Being open doesn't mean feeling everything all the time or never setting boundaries. It means allowing ourselves to love deeply, connect fully, grieve honestly, and remain compassionate.

The world needs more people who are willing to stay connected to themselves and to others. ❤️

We love how Emotionally Focused Therapy helps couples to relight the candle. Accessing the vulnerability that George speaks of below can be really hard; sharing it even harder; but with support you can do it! Thanks Faller for helping explain it so well. https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1GyQwATjcv/

From the Australian Association of Psychologists (AAPi):

Australia will soon be testing its new national emergency warning system, AusAlert, with a national test scheduled for 2pm (AEST) on 27 July 2026, following earlier community trials across the country.

The system will send emergency alerts directly to mobile phones and may override silent or “Do Not Disturb” settings to ensure messages are received.

For clients experiencing domestic and family violence who may be using discreet or hidden phones, it is important to include this in safety planning ahead of the scheduled test. An unexpected alert may potentially reveal the presence or location of a concealed device. Where it is safe to do so, turning a device off during the test period may reduce this risk, as alerts cannot activate on a switched-off device.

Support is available 24/7 via 1800RESPECT for anyone who would like help considering safety options and planning in a way that feels appropriate for their situation.

From The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse. Asking for Help can be scary, but we are here to make it as easy as possible and so worthwhile. We all deserve help in the places we hurt.

So often the "BUT" feels so important, yet it gets in the way of either person being heard. George explains it so well. Don't miss the message that there is a place for the explanation or the request from the other partner, it's just not when we're trying to caregive.

With exam season right upon us, the wonderful Sarah has put together a few slides to help remind everyone who might be feeling a bit stressed or overwhelmed of a few simple ways to de-stress. Take a look and maybe try one or two and see if they can help remind you that while important, this period is temporary, and you are so much more than your exam results.
