Telehealth offers patients convenient access to doctors without the need to travel, making it ideal for follow-ups, repeat prescriptions, test results, and mental health support. It is especially helpful for people in rural areas, those with mobility limitations, or busy schedules, and it also helps reduce the risk of infection. However, telehealth is not suitable when a physical examination or urgent medical assessment is required.

Pakenham Medical Clinic offers Telehealth appointments with 4 part-time GPs available. Existing patients can book online via Healthengine or HotDoc, or call the clinic directly.

Thinking about an IUD for contraception?

An IUD (Intrauterine Device) is a highly effective long-term contraceptive placed inside the uterus to prevent pregnancy.

There are two types of IUDs:
✅ Hormonal IUD – releases a small amount of progesterone locally in the uterus.

To have an IUD inserted, you will need a GP referral. Before insertion, a consultation is required to review your medical history, discuss suitable contraceptive options, and arrange any necessary screening tests.

The IUD insertion is performed as a clinic procedure and can usually be fitted at any stage of the menstrual cycle, provided pregnancy has been excluded.

Book an appointment with our GP team to discuss whether an IUD is right for you.

Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MToP)

Medical termination is available once a pregnancy is confirmed via ultrasound (usually from around 5 weeks) up to 9 weeks (63 days). It involves the use of two medications that work together to safely and effectively complete the termination process.

To discuss this option, please book a 30-minute consultation with Dr Bushra Abbasi.

Abortion via Telehealth is also available and may be suitable for patients who are unable to attend the clinic in person or prefer a more private consultation. In most cases, patients can collect the prescribed medication from a pharmacy after appropriate assessment and ultrasound.
