Happy NAIDOC Week 🖤💛❤️💙💚

This week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

This year’s theme is 50 Years of Deadly, marking 50 years of strong culture, proud communities and powerful voices.

Thank you to the more than 900 GenV parents who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. Your involvement is helping create a healthier future for all children.

At GenV we are working to support First Nations led data governance processes to ensure the culture safety of our participants and their communities.

Tiny microbes. Big impact. 🦠

This World Microbiome Day, we’re celebrating how families are helping us learn more about the microbiome. The microbiome is the tiny living things in our gut and body that help keep us healthy.

At GenV, families have shared breastmilk and stool samples to help researchers understand how health starts early in life.

“The impact of the generosity of families that contribute to Gen V is enormous. We know the bugs around us and in us drive health outcomes,” says Professor Donna Geddes.

These samples help us learn what helps babies grow strong and stay well.

And it’s all thanks to families.

Because when families take part, we can discover more - for this generation and the next 💛

GenV supports Refugee Week

A million stories make Australia what it is today 💛

At GenV, every family brings their own story. And every story helps us learn how to keep children and families healthy and well. Almost 50,000 families are already taking part and we are always growing!

GenV stays open. So families who move to Victoria can join us. This includes refugee families. This way, we always reflect the families of Victoria.

We invited families in 26 languages and share updates in 7 languages. This helps more people be part of important research.

Every family matters and is welcome. Because when more families are part of research, we all learn more.

May at GenV 💙

What a month! With a new month well underway, we’re reflecting on last month.

We saw GenV in the news across Australia and around the world after the GenHEART story. GenHEART is a group of trials focused on heart health we are planning. We also welcomed the Prime Minister, , who met GenV families (and GeneVieve – our GenV mascot!).

These moments show what GenV is all about - families helping make new discoveries, and those discoveries helping make life healthier for people across Australia.

We also:

○ Spent time with GenV families and listened to their stories
○ Celebrated 40 years of research at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute
○ Shared GenV with health leaders, students and communities

A very special day for GenV!

GenV families Liz and Penelope, and Saada and Mya, joined the GenV team at the Murdoch Children's Research Institute - MCRI to welcome the Prime Minister of Australia, Anthony Albanese .

The visit was a chance to share GenV - Australia’s largest and most inclusive child and parent research program. GenV is built with Victorian families. Together, we aim to help children and parents live healthier lives, now and in the future. Having families in the room showed what GenV is all about. Families are at the heart of all we do.

And of course, GeneVieve (GenV’s mascot and a familiar face to many families) was there too, helping share GenV’s story and supporting our GenV kids!

Thank you to the families who came and proudly represented GenV. Together, GenV families are helping researchers better support children and parents across Australia and beyond.

It’s National Reconciliation Week 💛

This week is about respect, listening and coming together.

The 2026 theme is ‘All In for Reconciliation’. It reminds us that
we all have a role in building a future where all families and children thrive.

More than 800 GenV parents identify as First Nations. We thank all our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families for being part of GenV and helping build a better future for all children and families.

This year’s artwork was created by Gumbaynggirr/Bundjalung artist Otis Hope Carey. It celebrates people from all walks of life coming together to make change. This message is shared in 10 different languages across our carousel of tiles.

Today is the International Day of Families. It is part of National Families Week (11–17 May), Australia’s biggest celebration of families.

This year’s theme is Every Family, Everywhere. It reminds us of our own values. Every family matters to GenV. We want everyone to feel included.

GenV is for every child, every family, every community.

This matters to GenV.

GenV is Australia’s largest and most diverse child and parent study. Families across Victoria are helping GenV learn more about health and wellbeing. Both for children and their parents. Together, what we learn can help families across Australia and beyond.

The families you see here are just some of the many who have shared their story with us. We can’t wait to share more over the coming weeks. Their involvement helps build a better future for us all.

April was a special month for our GenV community.

We caught up with one of our GenV families. Meet Shelly, Kris and Mika! Speaking with them reminded us that GenV is built on trust and relationships with families. We spent time playing together. Genevieve, our GenV mascot, became “Dr G.”.
Dr G. checked the health of Mika’s toys. Science, curiosity and play came together. Learning felt fun for everyone. We look forward to sharing more about their story soon.

We welcomed Federal MP Sarah Witty to MCRI and discussed GenV. We shared how families, researchers and partners each play a role in supporting health and wellbeing.

We were also excited to welcome three new PhD students to the GenV team. They are now shaping their research. They will use data from more than 48,000 GenV families. We look forward to sharing their work soon.

Every family matters. Every researcher matters. Every moment helps build knowledge for healthier lives for all Australians.

Today is National Doctors’ Day 💙

A day to say thank you to doctors and health professionals for the care they give every day.

At GenV, we’re lucky to be led by paediatricians (child doctors) who care deeply about children and families.

As Professor Melissa Wake, Scientific Director of GenV says:
“The early years matter so much. GenV helps us develop and test approaches that can make a real difference for children and families.”

And Professor Sharon Goldfeld, Deputy Director Gen V, reminds us:
“GenV is built on fairness and inclusion – so no child, parent or community is left out”
