Heartbeat of Football

Heartbeat of Football Promoting heart health through sport There is a tendency to focus on heart issues only after a tragedy, however Heartbeat of Football aims to change this.

In Australia, it is believed there have been 10 cases of heart-related deaths of amateur football players in the past two years, with the latest on a Sunday morning in January 2016. As ever-increasing members of the community see the benefits of, and enjoy taking part in, amateur sport, Heartbeat of Sport is proactive in both education to prevent heart-related events, and in procuring the necessar

y equipment (in the form of defibrillators) to help prevent deaths following on-field heart incidences.

Applications are now open for the Local Sport Defibrillator Grant Program.

The Office of Sport is providing up to $500,000 to help community sporting organisations purchase, maintain and provide training for automated external defibrillators (AEDs).

Since 2017, the Program has supported the installation of more than 2,500 AEDs at community sport and recreation facilities across NSW, helping improve participant safety and emergency preparedness.

This year, all funded AEDs will be registered on the GoodSAM AED Registry, strengthening emergency response capabilities and public access to life-saving equipment.

📅 Applications close 7 October 2026, or earlier if funding is exhausted.

𝗕𝗘 𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗖𝗨𝗘 𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗗𝗬: 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗖𝗟𝗨𝗕 𝗖𝗔𝗡 𝗦𝗔𝗩𝗘 𝗔 𝗟𝗜𝗙𝗘
In sport, we prepare for everything - training, game day, teamwork, and safety. But one of the most important safety steps is often overlooked: making sure your club is rescue ready.

𝗦𝘂𝗱𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗰 𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁 is one of the leading causes of death in sport, yet survival rates can soar to up to 70% when an AED is used within the first few minutes. That means your club’s defibrillator isn’t just equipment - it’s a lifesaving asset.

But here’s the catch:
𝗔𝗻 𝗔𝗘𝗗 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝘀𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗶𝗳 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀.
That’s why Heartbeat of Football, supported by the NSW Office of Sport, is urging all clubs to register their AEDs. When you do, NSW Ambulance and GoodSAM responders can quickly guide bystanders to its exact location in an emergency — giving someone their best chance of survival.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗯 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗱𝗼 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆:
• Register your AED - https://forms.gle/mwqC7UdioYz2cEu1A
• Make sure it’s visible, accessible, and ready for use
• Share the location with your members
• Build a safer community around your sport
Being rescue ready isn’t difficult - but it makes all the difference.
Take a few minutes today to register your AED and help protect the people who make your club what it is.

𝗗𝗢𝗡’𝗧 𝗛𝗔𝗩𝗘 𝗔𝗡 𝗔𝗘𝗗? Clubs in the footprint have an opportunity to be considered to receive a 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 our Partner Football NSW who are giving away devices as part of their partnership with Toyota and St John's. And to continue raising much needed funds for clubs without defibs or replacement parts for expiring defibs (like batteries or pads) please buy a ticket in the 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗕𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗿𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗹𝗲, where for $5 you could win a car and potentially help save a life.

More details can be found here - https://footballnsw.com.au/club-hub/every-beat-matters/

Other sports and locations ask your local club or sponsor or MP for funding support to get an AED.
