As the Fifa World Cup 2026 ⚽️ comes to an end, we thought we might do some red card DIY social media dental hacks that make our dentists cringe and yell NO, DON’T DO THAT!

Moe, Dina and Nik are throwing up their red cards after seeing videos of people:
🟥 Using superglue to put their crowns/veneers back on or even supergluing gems onto their teeth.
❌️Buying DIY filling kits to use at home.
🚩 Using a nail file to file down a recently chipped tooth.
⛔️ A big NO to buying orthodontic tools online to remove their own braces.
🚨 Putting tiny hair elastics around teeth to try and close gaps.
🚫 Unsafe homemade teeth whitening mixtures.

Mixtures that should never be used to whiten teeth at home include:
🛑 Lemon juice and baking soda
🛑 High concentration hydrogen peroxide
🛑 Apple cider vinegar and salt
🛑 Activated charcoal pastes
🛑 Household bleach dilutions - Household bleach should never be used on teeth. It can cause severe chemical burns and significant damage to oral tissues and may be harmful if swallowed.

These DIY dental hacks from social media trends can cause significant damage to teeth and gums and may increase the risk of infection, tooth decay, pain, chemical burns, or the need for more extensive dental treatment. If you have dental concerns about your oral health, seek advice from a registered dental practitioner. If appropriate, you may also wish to obtain a second professional opinion.

Bleeding gums aren't something to brush off. 🦷

Healthy gums generally shouldn't bleed when you brush or floss. Gum disease can develop gradually and often without pain, many people don't realise there's a problem until it progresses.

Regular dental check-ups and good oral hygiene habits can help support healthy gums. If you've noticed bleeding, swelling, or persistent bad breath, speak with your dentist to discuss your concerns.

Dr Nik answers the age old question, why are mouthguards important in sports? 😁
Mouthguards play an important role for athletes of all ages in contact sports by protecting teeth, gums, and jaws from serious injury during impact. They help reduce the risk of broken teeth, cuts and tears.

While being comfortable and easy to wear, mouthguards improve safety and give you the confidence to charge towards goal! 🦷

We’ve invested in advanced 3D imaging technology — a CBCT (Cone Beam CT) — to give our patients safer, more precise care.

Unlike traditional X-rays, CBCT provides a detailed 3D view of your teeth, bone, and surrounding structures. This allows us to accurately plan treatments like implants, wisdom tooth removal, and complex procedures with greater confidence and predictability.

Having this technology in-house means no delays, and immediate diagnosis — so we can streamline treatment and get the best outcome faster.

Better imaging. Better planning. Better results.

We love seeing our younger patients feel comfortable and confident at the dentist 😊

Creating a positive experience early on helps build healthy habits for life.

With consent, we’re sharing a special moment of one of our little patients showing us what her dentist uniform would look like. We completed her appt with a goodie bag and a toy while booking her next check-up during the school holidays.

School holiday appointments fill quickly, so we recommend booking ahead to avoid missing out 🗓🦷

Why are 6-month dental check-ups and cleans so important? 🦷
When we spoke with Dr Dina while reviewing a recent OPG, she highlighted how regular visits help keep plaque buildup under control, making each appointment more comfortable for patients.

Routine check-ups also allow dentists to identify any early signs of concerns, like small areas of decay, before they develop into more complex issues. Without regular visits, these problems may progress and require more extensive treatment.

Longer gaps between appointments can also lead to increased buildup, which may result in bleeding gums and discomfort during your visit.

Staying consistent with your dental care is a simple way to support your oral health over time.

If it’s been a while since your last check-up, consider booking an appointment with your dental professional.
