As the Fifa World Cup 2026 ⚽️ comes to an end, we thought we might do some red card DIY social media dental hacks that make our dentists cringe and yell NO, DON’T DO THAT!
Moe, Dina and Nik are throwing up their red cards after seeing videos of people:
🟥 Using superglue to put their crowns/veneers back on or even supergluing gems onto their teeth.
❌️Buying DIY filling kits to use at home.
🚩 Using a nail file to file down a recently chipped tooth.
⛔️ A big NO to buying orthodontic tools online to remove their own braces.
🚨 Putting tiny hair elastics around teeth to try and close gaps.
🚫 Unsafe homemade teeth whitening mixtures.
Mixtures that should never be used to whiten teeth at home include:
🛑 Lemon juice and baking soda
🛑 High concentration hydrogen peroxide
🛑 Apple cider vinegar and salt
🛑 Activated charcoal pastes
🛑 Household bleach dilutions - Household bleach should never be used on teeth. It can cause severe chemical burns and significant damage to oral tissues and may be harmful if swallowed.
These DIY dental hacks from social media trends can cause significant damage to teeth and gums and may increase the risk of infection, tooth decay, pain, chemical burns, or the need for more extensive dental treatment. If you have dental concerns about your oral health, seek advice from a registered dental practitioner. If appropriate, you may also wish to obtain a second professional opinion.
