A little update from me!

I'm excited to share that I will be joining the experienced team of clinicians at Kids Feeding Specialists.

I'm looking forward to working alongside an experienced multidisciplinary team who share a passion for supporting children and families with feeding challenges Australia wide.

I will continue to see clients through Speech Pathology Feeding as usual. This is simply an additional opportunity for me to do more of what I love and collaborate with other clinicians who are equally as passionate.

I'm looking forward to this exciting new chapter!

I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge the passing of Suzanne Evans Morris, an inspirational Speech Pathologist and a pioneer in paediatric feeding.

Suzanne's work has been part of my own professional journey since I began my Speech Pathology career in 1998. I still have her book from those early years, and I was incredibly fortunate to see her lecture in Sydney in 2015.

What always resonated with me was her approach to looking at the whole child, rather than focusing solely on the feeding difficulty in front of us.

Her knowledge and philosophy have influenced generations of clinicians, myself included, and her contribution to paediatric feeding will have a lasting impact.

A remarkable legacy. 💚

Communication creates possibility.

It's a beautiful message and one that captures so much of why I love being a Speech Pathologist.

While my clinical work has a strong focus on paediatric feeding, speech pathology can encompass communication, feeding and swallowing across different stages of life.

I'm incredibly grateful to have a profession that allows me to continue learning, work alongside families and other health professionals, and support children in developing skills that make a difference in their everyday lives. 💚

For an anxious eater, even a small change to a familiar food can feel like a BIG change. 🌈

In this feeding therapy session, we made colourful pancakes using pink, purple and blue food colouring. We also explored familiar and preferred elements, like sprinkles and crunchy textures, to make experimenting with food feel more comfortable.

The goal isn't simply to get a child to eat something new. It's about creating safe, manageable opportunities to explore food, experience change and build confidence - without pressure.

Sometimes a colourful pancake is about much more than a pancake. 💗

It's an opportunity to learn: “This looks different, but I can handle change.”

“But they eat it at daycare!” is something I hear from families all the time.

It can be confusing and sometimes disheartening when you're told your child happily ate something at daycare that they regularly refuse at home.

But it doesn't mean your child is deliberately being difficult, and it doesn't mean there's anything wrong with the food you're preparing.

Children's eating can be influenced by their environment, routine, other children, hunger, tiredness and how they're feeling that day.

Rather than comparing the two environments, we can use what happens at daycare as helpful information to better understand what helps your child feel comfortable around food.

Continuing to learn so I can continue providing the best possible support for the children and families I work with. 💚

I recently travelled to Melbourne to attend a Paediatric Videofluoroscopic Swallow Study Workshop, with the opportunity to learn from Associate Professor Kelly Weir, Professor Anna Miles, Aisling Molamphy and Paridhi Kulkarni.

We explored both subjective and objective analysis and worked through a range of paediatric case studies. It was also wonderful catching up with former colleagues from hospitals across Sydney.

The workshop has further strengthened my knowledge around when babies and children may need to be referred for a videofluoroscopic swallow study, how findings are interpreted, and how these results can help guide clinical recommendations.

There is always more to learn, and I'm looking forward to bringing this knowledge back into my clinical practice.

Progress in feeding therapy doesn't always look like taking a bite. 💚

For many children, the biggest milestones happen long before eating.

Progress might look like:

✔️ Touching a new food

✔️ Smelling it

✔️ Helping prepare it

✔️ Sitting at the table

✔️ Talking about food

These small steps help build confidence, reduce anxiety and create positive experiences around food. Every child progresses at their own pace, and every achievement deserves to be celebrated.

If you're concerned about your child's relationship with food, feeding therapy can provide practical, supportive strategies tailored to their individual needs.

📞 Get in touch today to learn how feeding therapy can help your child build confidence around food, one small step at a time.

Mealtimes can feel frustrating for everyone when a child is struggling to eat.

The good news is that pressure isn't the answer and you're certainly not alone.

Small changes in the way we approach meals can make a big difference over time.

Progress does not always mean taking a bite or finishing a meal.

For some children, meaningful progress may look like sitting comfortably near a new food, helping prepare it or touching it without becoming distressed.

It might mean smelling a new ingredient, placing it on their plate or watching someone else eat it.

These small steps help children become more familiar with food while building confidence at their own pace.

Feeding therapy focuses on helping children feel safe, supported and successful—not rushing them toward an outcome before they are ready.

Every positive interaction with food is an important step forward.

Concerned about your child’s feeding progress?
