Well we all know our lovely Jasper communicates all his feelings often 😝
Did you know? Just like humans, horses communicate a lot through their facial expressions.
Research has shown that horses display different facial cues depending on how they are feeling.
A relaxed horse may have soft eyes, relaxed nostrils, and ears gently forward, while a horse experiencing stress, fear, frustration, or discomfort may show tension around the eyes and mouth, widened eyes, or pinned ears.
Understanding these subtle changes helps us recognise how a horse is feeling, improve welfare and handling practices, build stronger human-animal relationships and enhance safety for both horses and people
Learning to read equine body language and facial expressions is an important part of ensuring positive experiences for everyone involved.
Every face tells a story—are we paying attention?
