🤍 HOW TO STORE & PACK YOUR PLACENTA 🤍
for Safe Encapsulation Collection.

✨ STEP 1
Ask your healthcare provider to keep your placenta after birth and to please cut the umbilical cord long to the placenta.

✨ STEP 2
Following birth, ask your provider to:
• Place the placenta into a double bag
• Securely seal both bags
• Label the outer bag clearly

✨ STEP 3
Have the double bagged placenta placed into a sealed container that is also clearly labelled.

Please complete any necessary hospital consent forms for Sarah from The Placenta Co to collect your placenta, and tape a copy of the form securely to the container.

✨ STEP 4
Ensure the placenta is placed:
• Into a fridge, OR
• Onto ice / ice bricks in an esky or cooler bag (We also sell and ship transport kits for Homebirth or hospitals that don’t routinely keep placentas or have fridges.)

This should occur within 4 hours of birth.

If collection will not occur within 48 hours, the placenta should be transferred to the freezer.

✨ STEP 5
Please keep The Placenta Co updated via SMS on 0408 850 923:
• During labour with any important updates
• Again once your placenta is ready for collection

Thank you for helping us ensure your placenta remains safely preserved and suitable for encapsulation 🤍

Umbilical cord keepsakes are art mementos, crafted from your baby’s dried umbilical cord. The unique keepsake symbolises the bond between mum & her baby within the womb. To serve as a physical memory of that pregnancy and birth.
Shape options range depending on the length of the umbilical cord provided from a heart, double hearts, letters like “love” “boy” short names such as “Arlo” “Mason” “Ruby”, a spiral or an infinity symbol. Twin cords can even be entwined together.
Keepsakes are packaged in our Pills only & standard package on thick card within a plastic sleeve. In our premium & complete package they are framed depending on their size in a 4x4, 6x6 or 8x8 3d shadow box. They can also be kept in a memory box alongside first hair or teeth. Sprayed silver or gold and placed with baby’s hand and feet prints.

A placenta print is something that The Placenta Co offers in some of our placenta encapsulation packages. Shop www.theplacentaco.au to see all the options we have from the Pills only package through to the Complete placenta encapsulation package including artworks.

A placental print is a unique piece of artwork keepsake made by stamping the placenta onto thick watercolour A3 sized paper revealing the fetal (baby) side of the placenta. The artwork shows the intricate, tree-like vascular system known as the “Tree of Life”.
The print is made with either using the umbilical cord blood as “paint” or adding colour dyes to make coloured designs.

It’s a meaningful way for parents to honour the placenta’s vital role in nurturing the growth of baby during pregnancy for a personalised memento for the nursery, keepsake box or home.

Hey there! Have you ever wondered what’s inside an umbilical cord? Well, I’m here to share some fascinating insights with you. Most of my clients don’t even know about this, so I thought I’d enlighten you. In these photos, you’ll see the perfect parallel pathways of the normal 3 blood vessel umbilical cord made up of one vein & two arteries. It’s like a little map that guides the blood flow between your baby & the placenta. The two arteries carry deoxygenated blood & waste from your baby back to the placenta. On the other hand, the one vein brings oxygen & nutrients to your precious bundle of joy. These vessels are protected by a special substance called Wharton’s jelly & surrounded by the amnion, which acts as a protective blanket. So, the placenta is like your baby’s lungs, & GI system whilst in the womb all rolled into one. The umbilical cord is like a lifeline, connecting your baby to the placenta.

I had the pleasure of encapsulating my 3rd unicorn in over 2000 placentas now. This is a photo of a placenta & umbilical cord. The umbilical cord has a true knot in it as you can see in the photo. A “true knot” in the umbilical cord refers to a knot that actually forms within the umbilical cord itself. It only occurs in 0.3-2% of all pregnancies. This can happen when the baby moves through a loop or loops of the cord during pregnancy. While most knots don’t cause problems, a tight true knot can restrict blood flow and oxygen to the baby, potentially leading to serious complications including; Fetal distress, Hypoxia (low oxygen levels), Brain damage & Stillbirth. Fortunately the 3 babies who I have encapsulated for are super healthy newborns, toddler and primary school aged now. Even after 10 years I still get to find rare moments in my work that surprise me.
