As a Doula, I see this parallel in birth every day.

Couples often focus on having the perfect birth bag packed with every gadget and comfort measure. But those things aren’t what allow a birthing person to truly let go.

It’s the relationship we build leading up to the big day. It’s the trust that I will protect your space and your environment.

When you feel truly safe with your team, you don’t have to “hold on for dear life.” You can finally surrender to the process, knowing you’re in good hands 🙌

Today’s fishing trip - the conditions got pretty nerve-wracking. Even though I was wearing a life jacket and had all my valuables tucked into a waterproof bag, I was still on the verge of panicking.

What actually kept me grounded? My husband.

He’s knowledgeable and experienced with the ocean. In that moment, it wasn’t about him doing anything extra—it was the connection and the reassurance that he had us, and he’d get us back to shore.

Are you looking for a support team you can truly lean into? Let’s build that connection. Click the link in my bio to chat about my birth support packages. 🕊️

Amber and Paddy didn’t just hope for a home birth - they built the dream from the bottom up. Being so informed and prepared created an atmosphere of complete calm and confidence. Witnessing Amber trust her body and Paddy never once doubting her ability - so completely - was an absolute honour.
I feel privileged to be given permission to share a part of their story and a journey I was so blessed to be a part of 🥰

If you’re pregnant please know that there are many options for birth in Perth!

If you would like to know all of them please DM me and I’ll send you a PDF.

You can never cuddle your baby too much. You can never comfort them too much. And you can never respond to them “too much.”

Despite what generations before us were told, there is no spoiling a newborn. There is no “making a rod for your own back” by picking them up, feeding them, holding them close or simply being their safe place.

Those early weeks and months aren’t about creating bad habits. They’re about creating connection. Safety. Trust. Love.

At the end of the day, there is only one right way to parent your newborn…

Your way.

Your baby.
Your instincts.
Your capacity.
Your family.
Your values.
Your season.
Your journey.

Your baby doesn’t need perfect.

They just need you 🤍

In a culture that often celebrates the birth but overlooks the mother, I appreciate how Ayurveda honours postpartum as a time to be held, nourished, and cared for. It reminds us that recovery isn’t a luxury- it’s a vital part of the journey, laying foundations for a mama’s physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing in the months and years ahead.

On Friday night I was invited into a slightly different space to our usual weekly time together. A cute cottage nestled amongst the trees where two incredible parents prepared for their first staycation and date night 🥰

It made me so proud and emotional 🥲. 7 months in, and if only the world could have seen their confidence and teamwork between breastfeeding, nappies, sleep suits, songs - a bedtime routine down pat 👌
My world will be a little emptier now they are on their way, but my heart is full. ❤️

Tried to go bushwalking today to decompress and reduce a little burnout.

The irony? All I thought about was birth.

This work is so much more than being present at a birth. It’s being on call 24/7, never quite knowing when you’ll be needed or when you’ll be home. It’s missing your children’s birthdays, missed family gatherings, missed Christmas’s, cancelled plans, sleepless nights, and living with one foot always ready to walk out the door.

It’s carrying the immense joy of a birth that was everything a family hoped for, while also carrying the weight of births that didn’t unfold as planned. Holding space for others means sometimes holding onto their stories long after you’ve left the room.

Birth work is heart-centred work. It’s beautiful, meaningful, life-changing work. But it’s also a lot.

Most people only see us at the birth itself. They don’t see the emotional load, the unpredictability, the sacrifices, or the quiet moments spent trying to switch off and finding our minds wandering straight back to the families we’ve supported.

So today’s bushwalk wasn’t exactly the mental break I had planned.

But maybe that’s because this work isn’t just what I do.

It’s who I am.

✨ In those early days, it’s normal to wonder if your baby is getting enough milk. Here are some reassuring signs to look for.

The p**p and p*e lowdown…..💩💧

Let me help you take the guesswork out of it… check the nappy 🧷

Here is a rough guide ⬇️

👌Days 1–3:
Dark, sticky meconium (vegemite poos)
Roughly 1-3 wet nappies, and they won’t feel very heavy yet.

👌By Days 5–7:
5–6+ wet nappies a day - noticeably heavier. Soft, yellow, seedy poos (for breastfed babies)

This is generally why you are encouraged to document wee’s, poo’s and feeding times for at least the first few weeks.

Nappies are one of the BEST indicators your baby is getting what they need.

🤨Not your pump output.
🤨Not the clock.
🤨Not the doubt creeping in at 2am.

👉Watch the nappies.
👉Trust your baby
👉Trust your incredible mama instincts 🤍
