Sometimes healthy eating isn’t about finding the “perfect” recipe or buying the latest superfood.

Sometimes it’s as simple as making a morning of it.

☕ Grab a coffee.
🌿 Wander through a local produce market.
🥕 Fill your bag with whatever looks fresh and in season.
💛 Slow down and enjoy the experience.

Shopping this way can make healthy eating feel less like another thing on your to-do list and more like something you actually look forward to.

This little trip to Bickley Valley Fresh was the perfect reminder that nourishing yourself can be simple, enjoyable and part of real life.

Do you have a favourite local market? I’d love to hear your recommendations! 🍎🌱

✨ 5 Things I Wish Everyone Newly Diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes Knew ✨

One of the things I hear most often from people after a Type 2 diabetes diagnosis is...

"I don't know what I'm supposed to eat anymore."

It breaks my heart because so many people feel like they have to give up everything they enjoy or that they've somehow "failed."

The truth is, managing Type 2 diabetes doesn't have to be about strict rules or perfection.

If I could tell every newly diagnosed person just five things, they'd be:

💛 You don't need to cut out all carbohydrates.
💛 Your blood glucose readings are information, not a judgement.
💛 Small, consistent changes are more powerful than trying to be perfect.
💛 You can still enjoy the foods you love.
💛 You don't have to navigate diabetes on your own.

As a dietitian, my goal is to help people feel confident making food choices that work for their life—not to hand out long lists of foods they can never eat again.

If you or someone you know has recently been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, I hope this post offers a little reassurance.

💬 Which message resonates with you the most?

Please feel free to share this with someone who might need to hear it today. ❤️

🍎 MYTH: People with diabetes can't eat fruit.

This is one of the most common myths I hear—and thankfully, it's simply not true.

People living with diabetes can enjoy fruit as part of a balanced eating pattern.

Fruit provides fibre, vitamins and minerals, and it's a convenient, nutritious snack. Rather than avoiding fruit altogether, think about what you can pair it with to help create a more balanced snack.

Some great combinations include:
• Greek yoghurt and berries
• Apple with peanut butter
• Mandarin with a handful of nuts
• Kiwifruit with cottage cheese

Managing diabetes isn't about eliminating nutritious foods or striving for perfection. It's about understanding how different foods affect your blood glucose levels and making informed choices that work for you.

👉 Have you ever been told that people with diabetes shouldn't eat fruit?

I'd love to hear your experience in the comments.

If you found this helpful, please consider sharing it with someone who might benefit from it. 💛

One of the biggest myths about Type 2 Diabetes is that it's simply caused by a lack of willpower.

The reality is much more complex.

Type 2 Diabetes develops due to a combination of factors, including genetics, family history, age, hormones, sleep, physical activity, nutrition and some medications.

That's why my approach is never about blame, guilt or perfection.

Instead, it's about understanding what's happening in your body and making informed food choices that work for you.

The good news? Small, sustainable changes can make a meaningful difference to your blood glucose levels and your long-term health.

💛 If you've ever blamed yourself for your diagnosis, I hope this reminds you to be kinder to yourself.

💙 My Why

People often ask why I chose to focus on diabetes nutrition.

The answer is simple — diabetes became part of our family's story.

As a parent of a child living with Type 1 Diabetes, I've seen firsthand the daily decisions, planning and problem-solving that diabetes can bring.

I've experienced the 3am blood glucose checks, the carb counting, the constant balancing act and the mental load that often comes with living with diabetes.

Living alongside diabetes has given me a deeper appreciation for how challenging and overwhelming it can sometimes feel.

It's also reinforced something I see every day in practice: people don't need more fear, guilt or confusion around food.

They need practical, evidence-based advice they can actually use in real life.

That's why I'm passionate about helping people:
💙 Understand their blood glucose levels
💙 Make informed food choices
💙 Feel more confident managing diabetes

Whether you're living with Type 1 Diabetes, Type 2 Diabetes, Gestational Diabetes, supporting a family member, or simply wanting to learn more, I'm glad you're here.

Thanks for following along and being part of this community. 💛
