TSH Since 1967, Teach Speak Hear (formerly Telethon Speech & Hearing) has been supporting WA children with hearing, speech and language needs.

We are a not-for-profit registered charity and independent school, providing holistic healthcare and education. Telethon Speech & Hearing (TSH) is a Western Australian based not-for-profit organisation, registered charity and independent school offering quality diagnostic, therapy and education supports to empower children with their hearing, speech and language development. Originating in 1966, TSH began with a group of parents, who had great hopes for the future of their profoundly deaf children and refused to settle for what they thought was β€œsecond-best”. These parents decided to start a school of their own. With five students, no premises, little money and no experience, they made a commitment to pursue the very best oral education for their children. The following year they started The Speech & Hearing Centre for Children WA Inc., and a registered school officially opened on 6th February 1967. Today known as Telethon Speech & Hearing, our centre has grown since these humble beginnings and is the only place in WA that provides diagnostic, education and therapy services all in one location. As experts in our field we excel in bringing together services to support children and families to speak, hear, connect and learn in ways that empower them to live fulfilling lives. TSH is a Registered NDIS Provider and can help eligible children and families through the NDIS. Call (08) 9387 9888, email [email protected] or visit www.tsh.org.au to discuss how we can best support your child and family.

Last week, Kylie and Louise from our Community Outreach programs attended the Walk for Reconciliation, hosted by Reconciliation WA.

The team were honoured to meet Sharni Foulkes, CEO of Reconciliation WA, and join thousands of community members at this important event.

With more than 8,000 people taking part, this sensory journey through Kaarta Koomba (Kings Park) explored the deep cultural significance of this area and the inner Boorloo district for Noongar people. Along the way, participants experienced live music, dance performances, singalongs and storytelling, with a section of the walk dedicated to men's and women's business.

As we celebrate the world's oldest living culture, the Walk for Reconciliation is an opportunity to listen, learn and walk forward together.

We are so proud of Jemma, who represented TSH at the Power of Speech event held at Parliament House in Canberra earlier this month πŸ’™

Alongside students from our First Voice friends across Australia and New Zealand, Jemma helped showcase the confidence, resilience and achievements of young people living with hearing loss, while highlighting the importance of early intervention and specialist support.

Congratulations to all the students who participated. You should be incredibly proud of your achievements πŸ‘

Thank you to The Shepherd Centre and Cochlear Australia and New Zealand for bringing this wonderful event to life and creating such a memorable experience for the students, their families, and Members of Parliament.

It’s two weeks until Telethon Weekend, and the magic has already begun! ✨

Ahead of the big weekend, Emma Memma (Emma Watkins) made a very special visit to TSH, where she surprised a lucky group of kids with plenty of colour, dancing, smiles and a little bit of Emma Memma magic.

For five-year-old Imogen, meeting her favourite entertainer was a moment she’ll never forget.

After giving Emma a giant hug, Imogen summed up exactly what Emma Memma means to her: β€œShe makes me feel happy, brave, kind, smart and loved.” πŸ’›

And that right there is what Telethon is all about. Creating moments where WA kids feel seen, supported, included and surrounded by people who believe in them.

The countdown is ON. 14 sleeps until WA is !
