One in five children have had a concussion by age 16, yet one in three Australian parents say they have little or no knowledge about it (RCH Child Health Poll, 2023). It is common, and many of us feel unsure about what to do next.

If your child has had a recent concussion, here is where to start. Download the free HeadCheck app, open 'Concussion Recovery', and join AUS-mTBI. It gives you evidence-based guidance to track their recovery and support a safe return to school and sport.

Thank you Central Murray Football Netball League for helping us to promote our upcoming education session. A big part of our why is to get concussion education and advice to people in regional and remote parts who may not otherwise have easy access to specialist concussion care 🙏🙏

🧠 CONCUSSION EDUCATION SEMINAR 🧠

Jemma Keeves, local physiotherapist & concussion researcher at Curtin University Western Australia, has very kindly put together a FREE online Webinar to assist the community by delivering a concussion education seminar for Swan Hill and surrounds.

Jemma has called Swan Hill home for the past couple of years and is a familiar face on the court, playing Netball for Swan Hill FNC.

The seminar will provide practical, evidence based information about concussion, including:

🏉 What concussion is
🧠 How to recognise the signs and symptoms
📋 Best practice concussion management
🏫 Return to school and return to play guidance
🤝 Resources available to support recovery

All in line with AFL & Netball Australia Protocols.

The session is open to everyone, including players, parents, coaches, team staff, teachers and anyone in the community who would like to learn more about concussion.

Whether you are involved in sport or not, this is a great opportunity to gain a better understanding of concussion and how we can support safe recovery and return to activity.

Most of us know someone who's had a concussion. Over 200,000 Australians each year get a concussion (mild traumatic brain injury) usually from something pretty ordinary: a fall, a knock at sport, a bad day on the road.

If you or someone you know have had a recent concussion, the free HeadCheck app 'Concussion Recovery' pathway is a good place to start. By downloading HeadCheck and joining the AUS-mTBI study, you can get access to a symptom checker, keep an eye on how they change over the following weeks, and gives sensible, evidence-based advice on easing back into school, work and sport.
Download HeadCheck today via the App Store or Google Play.
