Individuals with strong narcissistic patterns often struggle with genuine accountability and sustained commitment. Rather than facing discomfort, reflecting, and repairing, they may disengage and move on — leaving issues unresolved and partners carrying the emotional weight.

Affairs may offer fleeting intensity, but they often come at a profound cost — creating deep attachment injuries in relationships where safety, trust, and emotional security are essential. As bonding beings, we don’t just seek connection; we rely on it to feel grounded, secure, and able to thrive.

Lasting love, by contrast, is built on integrity, consistency, and a willingness to protect the bond — even when it requires effort, accountability, and restraint. Without that foundation, the relationship becomes an unsafe place rather than a secure one.

When dealing with a “pit bull” (someone who has suffered years of emotional abuse,) and who will finally snarl and be understandably reactive and angry, it’s “the cobra,” mentality that thwarts any kind of real and meaningful change, (cold, calculated and lacking in empathy,) this means I am cut off at the knees, as a relationship therapist, to offer real and “meaningful change.”
