One of the best things about PSWA events is the opportunity to connect with pharmacists at every stage of their career.

It was wonderful to hear from the early career pharmacists and students who attended Innovation Night and learn what they enjoyed most about the evening.

Whether you’re looking to expand your network, explore new career opportunities or simply meet others in the profession, PSWA events are a welcoming place to start.

We hope to see you at a future event.

📢 Pharmacists for Prostate Cancer Support

Following his own prostatectomy three years ago, WA pharmacist Jeff Leach has become increasingly aware of the lasting impact prostate cancer can have on quality of life and mental health.

Jeff is looking to establish a pharmacists’ group focused on supporting men affected by prostate cancer and strengthening awareness of PSA testing as a life-saving tool.

As highly accessible healthcare professionals, we are well placed to promote PSA awareness, guide patients through treatment side effects and connect men with appropriate support services including exercise programs.

Interested in being involved? Please contact Jeff Leach via [email protected]

At Innovation Night 2026, we had the privilege of speaking further with Jeff Hughes and Deirdre Criddle about the journeys behind their innovations.

Both stories began with recognising a problem or unmet need and a determination to improve outcomes for patients. While the path wasn’t always straightforward, they adapted, persevered and continued to push for change.

Their experiences are a powerful reminder that innovation often starts with identifying a need and having the curiosity, resilience and persistence to pursue a better solution.

Innovation Night 2026 ✨

Thank you to everyone who joined us at this year’s Innovation Night.

This year we had three pharmacists who shared their unique journey of innovation. Bo Youn Kim spoke about her journey to becoming a women’s health pharmacist specialising in menopause care. Deirdre Criddle shared her experience as a complex care coordinator pharmacist, advocating and researching for systems to reduce medication related harm and readmissions to hospital in high risk patients. Jeff Hughes detailed his journey from identifying a vulnerable group of patients with dementia, unable to communicate their pain, which led to the development of PainChek, an app using facial AI tools and a checklist to identify patient pain.

Thank you to our incredible speakers for sharing your knowledge, experiences and passion. It was a wonderful night celebrating the innovation happening within our profession.

We had the absolute pleasure of hearing from Bo Youn Kim, who explained how she became a pharmacist specialising in menopause, leading her to open her own clinic to see women. She’s been largely supported by Amanda Bryce from Gerald Burns Pharmacy throughout this journey.

For those wanting to specialise in this area too, Bo had plenty of advice, plus an exciting announcement: a pharmacist specific course is coming soon!

Thank you for your insights, Bo 💛
