Every fortnight, our men head out to serve meals alongside a dedicated team of volunteers, supporting those in our community who are doing it tough.

It’s a powerful opportunity to give back - building connection, learning the value of service, and experiencing the joy that comes from helping others. Being part of something bigger, working together as a team, and making a real difference is a meaningful part of the journey at Pindari.

Louise (Growth Fitness), our personal trainer and nutrition specialist, is fundraising to renovate the Pindari gym. Can you help out?

In Louise's words:
"We’re raising funds to create a safe, fully equipped gym so the men at Pindari can rebuild their health, strength and confidence as part of their recovery journey.

Pindari house is an incredible residential facility where men can come to rebuild their lives through a 12-month program that educates, heals and supports lasting change. We want to add a more structured fitness and nutrition program to the outstanding work already happening here, as the research shows how vital physical health is to mental wellbeing and long-term recovery. Here's another important truth about emotions:
Your feelings are like a thermometer - they tell you what's happening inside.
They're not a thermostat that gets to decide reality.

It's easy to fall into emotional reasoning:
"I feel rejected, so nobody wants me."
"I feel overwhelmed, so I can't cope."
"I feel judged, so everyone is against me."

Our feelings are real - but they aren't always accurate.
When we automatically believe every feeling, we can end up creating the very outcome we fear. We withdraw because we feel rejected, people stop hearing from us, and the loneliness grows.

Instead, try asking yourself:
• Is this feeling telling me the whole story?
• What's the evidence?
• Could there be another explanation?

Then choose your next step based on your values - not just your emotions.
Feeling like isolating? Send the text.
Feeling like giving up? Take one small step.
Feeling anxious? Pause and breathe before reacting.

Emotions are important signals. They deserve to be noticed, not obeyed without question.

What's one way you can respond wisely to a difficult emotion this week?

Did you know? An emotion only lasts about 90 seconds.
According to Dr. Joan Rosenberg's research, when you actually allow yourself to feel a difficult emotion - sadness, anger, shame or fear - the physical wave of it peaks and passes in roughly 60-90 seconds.

So why can it feel like it lasts for hours?
Often it's because we spend all our energy trying to avoid it, numb it, distract ourselves from it, or replay it over and over in our minds. The emotion never gets the chance to run its natural course.

The skill is to learn to surf the wave instead of fighting it.

Emotions naturally rise, peak, and fall - just like waves in the ocean. You don't have to be controlled by them, and you don't have to escape them. Sometimes the healthiest thing you can do is simply notice what's happening.
✔️ Name the emotion.
✔️ Allow yourself to feel it.
✔️ Breathe.
✔️ Watch it pass.
Emotions aren't your enemy. They're simply part of being human.
What's one emotion you've been trying to outrun instead of allowing yourself to feel?

Pindari delivers practical, on-the-job experience. We know that getting and keeping a job takes more than a degree, apprenticeship or trade skills. Through Work Therapy, we build a strong work ethic and foster positive attitudes and behaviors that help residents become valuable team members. We also value hands-on activity as part of healing and growth - Work Therapy boosts confidence and creates a real sense of achievement and self-worth.

A big thank you to PEACH - Personnel Employed at Alcoa Charity Help for a grant toward a new water tank at Pindari House.
PEACH is funded by Alcoa Australia employees giving from their own pay, which makes it all the more meaningful. This water tank will allow us to have water security for the expansion we are currently busy with. So it will directly help more men to get the help they need!
Thank you PEACH, Alcoa Australia and Beyond Bank. Your support means so much.

We are pleased to be able to assist PeelConnect Incorporated , Future Living Trust and Pindari House to continue the great job they do in our community.
Thank you to the Alcoa Australia employee's past and present who chose to donate to PEACH - Personnel Employed at Alcoa Charity Help. Additional thanks go to our generous partners, Beyond Bank who also assisted with two of these grants.
