Most clients think of a Dietitian when they have lost significant weight or have a specific medical condition.

By then, a lot has already been missed.

Our Dietitians work with NDIS and Support at Home participants across a range of needs that often go unrecognised:

→ Unplanned weight loss (often the first sign of something bigger)
→ Texture-modified diets and mealtime safety
→ Tube feeding and enteral nutrition
→ Chronic disease management — diabetes, kidney disease, heart disease
→ Malnutrition and nutritional deficiencies
→ Nutrition support during cancer treatment
→ Mealtime difficulties in collaboration with Speech Pathology

Early Dietitian referral isn't optional. It's foundational. If you're unsure whether your client needs Dietetics, that uncertainty is usually reason enough to refer.

Most OT referrals come after something has already gone wrong: a fall, a hospital admission, a carer breakdown. But the signs are almost always there beforehand.

Here are 5 things to watch for in your clients right now:

1: They're holding onto furniture when they walk
2: They're avoiding certain rooms or areas
3: Carers are doing more and more
4: They say "I'm managing", but the evidence says otherwise
5: They haven't had an OT assessment in the last 12 months

If any of these sound familiar for a client on your caseload, reach out. Early referral costs nothing. Waiting often does.

There's something that changes when therapy happens at home.

We're not seeing our clients in a neutral space. We're in their kitchen. Their bathroom. The hallway they've been avoiding. The front door they've stopped using.

That context changes everything — what we assess, what we recommend, and what's actually possible for each person.

At Super Rehab, every clinician is mobile. Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Exercise Physiologists, Speech Pathologists, and Dietitians all deliver care in the places our clients actually live.

For aged care and NDIS participants especially, home-based therapy is more than convenient, it's clinically better. We see the real risks. We make recommendations that work in the real environment.

If you're a coordinator or case manager looking for allied health that truly meets your clients where they are, we'd love to hear from you.

Exercise is not just about fitness. For many of the clients we support, it is about maintaining function, independence, and the ability to continue living safely at home.

Exercise Physiology is a clinical allied health service that uses evidence-based exercise to help manage chronic health conditions and improve everyday function.

Our Exercise Physiologists commonly support people living with:
✔ Arthritis and chronic pain
✔ Diabetes and cardiovascular conditions
✔ Neurological conditions
✔ Falls risk and reduced mobility
✔ Fatigue and deconditioning

The goal is not to help someone run a marathon. The goal is to help them walk more confidently, get in and out of a chair safely, maintain their independence, and continue participating in daily life.

👉 Does your client have a chronic condition affecting their function, mobility, or independence?

📩 Consider a referral to Exercise Physiology.

Multiple sclerosis often leads to gradual changes in mobility and daily function. Early signs may include reduced balance, fatigue, changes in coordination and reduced confidence with walking or transfers. These changes can slowly impact safety, independence, and participation in everyday activities.

👉 Early allied health intervention can support:
✔ Mobility and balance
✔ Fatigue management
✔ Home safety and equipment needs
✔ Confidence with daily activities

Early support can make a meaningful difference in maintaining independence and quality of life.

In community care, Occupational Therapy is not just about equipment. It is about helping people live more safely and independently at home.

OT focuses on:
✔ Safety
✔ Function
✔ Independence

This may include:
• Home modifications
• Equipment recommendations
• Bathroom safety solutions
• Transfer strategies
• Daily living support

Sometimes small environmental changes can make a major difference to confidence, mobility, and falls risk.

The goal is not simply support.
It is safer daily living and maintaining independence for as long as possible.

👉 When the environment becomes part of the problem, Occupational Therapy can become part of the solution.

Most falls do not happen outside the home. They happen inside familiar environments where risks are often overlooked.

Common issues we see include:
• Poor lighting
• Cluttered walkways
• Unsafe bathroom setups
• Incorrect use of furniture or equipment

These may seem like small concerns, but they can significantly increase falls risk over time.

👉 A simple home safety assessment can help identify risks early and support safer daily living. Occupational Therapy can assist with:
✔ Home safety recommendations
✔ Equipment and assistive technology
✔ Bathroom and transfer solutions
✔ Practical strategies to support independence at home

Sometimes small changes make the biggest difference.

Occupational Therapy is not just about equipment.

In the community, OT can help clients:

- Move around the home more safely

- Identify home hazards before incidents occur

Sometimes small adjustments make the biggest difference. This may include:
✔ Equipment recommendations
✔ Bathroom safety solutions
✔ Transfer strategies
✔ Home modifications
✔ Daily living support strategies

The goal is not just support. It is safer and more independent living at home.

Our Occupational Therapy team recently attended the ATSA Independent Living Expo Sydney at Sydney Olympic Park.

It was a great opportunity for our team to see new products in person, ask questions directly to suppliers, and learn more about practical solutions that may benefit the clients we support in the community.

A big thank you to Icare Medical Group for the warm hospitality and the very comfortable pillows our attending OTs received. They were definitely appreciated after a long day walking around the expo floor.

Safe to say those who did not attend missed out a little this time.

Falls risk does not reset at the end of April.

If an older person is:
- More unsteady
- Holding onto furniture
- Less confident walking
👉 The risk is still there.

Early intervention remains the most effective way to prevent decline.
