HIPPY Hervey Bay

HIPPY Hervey Bay Families usually start HIPPY 2 years before their child starts school (3 years old) and continue during the year before they start formal schooling.

A FREE 2-year program for parents/caregivers of 3-year-olds living in the Hervey Bay and surrounding area that want to build their skills as their child's first Teacher. The Home Interaction Program for Parents and Youngsters (HIPPY) is a voluntary and completely free home-based program supporting early learning for families with young children. HIPPY program activities are designed to the AEDC d

omains and Australian Early Learning Framework and we strongly support the transition into Prep year. The first year of the program provides children with 15 work books of activities which support literacy and numeracy skills (spread over 30 weeks). The second year extends these activities and provides families with additional information about children’s learning and development. The HIPPY program is staffed by a tertiary qualified Coordinator and a team of Tutors. The Tutors are usually past or current parents offered a pathway to employment by participating in the program and they receive continued training and support from the Coordinator. HIPPY contributes to children making a successful transition to school and beyond and is supported by research that shows that children’s most powerful learning comes from their family, and that getting a strong start at school sets children up for life.

Here’s a little sneak peak of two activities from two of the Age 4 books. One of these activity books come with a storybook.

- Making a family recipe is a fun way for your child to feel connected to family culture and history as well as participating in everyday family routines.

- Making paper planes is a fun way for children to practice their fine motor skills and develop their spatial awareness of up and down.
