Whenever someone asked me like what does this look like and what does the process look like? I feel like I’m being difficult and explaining to them that it’s different every single time but every person that’s ever come to work with me doesn’t fit into a box and not Everyon boarding is the exact same and yes if you were reading this and you have on boarded with me, I know it hasn’t always been this smooth it’s process but I’m continuously spending hours each week trying to figure out how to make it better. There’s a balance between being compliance as a registered provider, quality and assurance, and making sure that we’ve got the details that we need and trying to make it that it is user-friendly because essentially all those three things don’t really fit into the same sentence. But really this shouldn’t be the exception. They should be the norm though that are provider in Tailor to someone’s needs.

Often I hear people say they will “ figure it out once they’ve secured the job” but here’s the thing- securing the job is not always the hardest part. Continuing to show up and perform under pressure and when it matters most so you can still pay your rent is sometimes harder than getting the job. Everyone I’ve seen someone go from zero preparation, no exercise , no routine and sleeping in every day + return to work = the return to work has failed

Why does waiting until we secure work to figure out a path through the barriers not work?
Because in that state, our brains aren’t thinking logically and we haven’t built a tool bag full of tools for when it really matters.

If you’re really feeling like you need help and you don’t know where to turn you have private health but you don’t have psychiatric care on that level of private health then there may be an option for you to get help soon sooner than you may realise. Google the mental health waiting period exemption it’s a once in a lifetime waiver to ensure you can get immediate in hospital mental health provided you’ve had your lower level of cover for two months. I have also seen people that have really needed their help and have relied on our Medicare system thinking that they would get the help they needed. I had spoken to them about taking out private health cover and unfortunately they didn’t do it early enough and they almost didn’t make the waiting period to be able to get into a private health facility for the help they actually needed.

All the best intentions, never a task finished. It’s dog, toddler and horse proof right?

This morning I woke up, got up as I would to think about going to the gym and ended up back in bed. Normally, this would end up in a bit of a shame spiral for me, but I recognize it this morning. I had something big and scary for the way that my brain works. I have been invited to do something this morning that I’ve not done before and I have very little information about how it will go. Where I work with people in developing tools so that when they caught out in the moment, they have a tool bag that they can use and get through situations. This morning my tool bag was some quiet music, a coffee on the couch, taking time to make myself feel good and look good, organizing my thoughts in my diary. Now to put on some clothing and look at the part to play. So often I hear that people want to secure work first and then sort out the barriers later, but we don’t turn up to a ballet performance and figure out how we’re going to do the dance while we’re on stage in front of people. we practice. we practice. we practice. so that, when we’re in the middle of the performance, the next step is automatic. This is why we do capacity building and we build your toolbox before we send you off to apply for jobs - so that, when the moment counts, you know how to survive and thrive
