An optimistic-leaning, singer-songwriter, original acoustic protest song written over 20 years ago called "Mankind", after watching the John Butler Trio at a Big Day Out (festival).

This is one where I use another of my different singing styles β€” I've used about 10 different voices across my originals, because I like to do what serves the song and whatever comes through at the time fits and sits.

Plenty of room at the end of this one for a solo β€” I don't even remember what I played to be honest! Jam do it if you'd like 🎸

Keep your head up ✌️

I hope this song brings you a warm hug and some uplifting when you need it most πŸ˜Œβ˜€οΈ

It's a calming acoustic original song called "Shine On You", from my archives, that blends spiritual vocals strongly influenced by Eric Bibb, fingerpicking, and a Cat Stevens-esque Greek-influenced turnaround.

May this bring you peace, wherever you are and whatever you do or do not believe πŸ™πŸ’›

With love, Dan Sage

Monarch Butterfly on South African Dandelion near the beginning of Spring in Australia

Spring is arriving in Australia, and the South African Dandelion is doing some heavy lifting for our local ecosystem. Whilst often dismissed as a w**d, it serves as a vital pioneer plant that protects degraded earth, acts as a dynamic accumulator that mines deep soil nutrients (including heavy metals), and provides a great early-season nectar source for pollinators like this beautiful Monarch butterfly.

Additionally, getting out amongst it is very good for the human body, mind, and spirit. We are part of nature, not separate to it, and greenspace heavily improves your overall health and wellbeing. If you can get in it, do so!

This was in a time where I would completely improvise songs in a near sleep state. So it's a raw and unpredictable, completely improvised song.

When I listen back to it, it sounds like there's some influence from a mixture of Neil Young, Radiohead, Tool, Metallica, and some traditional acoustic country chill gallop. Some rhythm from the last two mentioned are closer to the end, the first two mentioned dominate most of the track. With regards to influence anyway, in my opinion. You might hear something else. It was improvised and I wasn't thinking anything. I was practically asleep.

Letting words come and form meaning was all practice to just allow the flow.

It requires some patience to listen to the whole way through, but it's worth it if you just want to chill on a Sunday night, or anytime you need to take your mind somewhere else, because you can either absorb or analyse this track.

Definitely deals with themes of heartbreak and acceptance. But it can translate to any area of life, not just romance β€” work, social expectations, anything.

No AI slop 🚫 Only original, human creations.

There are some interesting stories about this!

A loosely based "Redhouse" (Jimi) jam that's nearly a quarter of a century old, when I was hyper focused on playing lead, with a bassist who was brilliant at sitting in the pocket and creating space for freeform guitar parts (and pushing me, which I loved).

It's the only thing that survived this whole time.

I first wanted to play lead because of Kirk Hammett, then I went down the rabbit hole of Jimi Hendrix. So I learnt a lot of things, and then spent a lot of time unlearning them to just swim in the channel of music.

Became heavily spiritual.

Used to practise 14 hours a day, sometimes on my knees in front of a painting of Jimi, in an altered state of consciousness, trying to will his energy to interact with mine and training myself to just let the music come through my fingers.

What you'll hear on this section of track is both influences, and a genuine flow state where I managed to clear myself and step aside and allow the music to just come through.

That's where the fingers and expression can be heard because it's just, as I recall, a Yamaha SG200 with an EMG 85 and 81 in it (still got it β€” her name's Bec), into a crappy Dan Electro wah pedal, straight into a Marshall DSL50 and 1960A quad box.

About 45 seconds of this I remember having no consciousness of what was happening; It's pure, messy, raw and straight up channelling.

Recorded with one crap mic in one take with no edits β€” by a silent mate who waited and hit space bar πŸ™πŸ€£βš‘πŸ’œ

We didn't have easy recording equipment to document these things back then, so I chucked it with something that I thought Jimi's spirit would appreciate.

Hope you enjoy this little slice of my personal rock and roll history.

Your time, thoughts, feelings, and whole self as a person is worthy.

Worthy of honouring.

So, take a breath, unclench your shoulders, hands, jaw, exhale and release. Allow your body to relax.

Here are some thoughts I offer you -

Give without over-giving,
Receive without over-receiving, and
Accommodate without over-reaching.

Whilst treating others how you'd like to be treated, remember to do the same for yourself.

In all things - balance.

In balance - harmony.

Recognise the imbalances, and correct as needed, and as possible.

It is OK to need more - or less - match those needs to the way you approach living.

In this may you find harmony.

In this may you find joy.

Tuesday Tip - for the rest of your week:

This card speaks of a tremendous time of positivity, new beginnings, healing of old wounds, and growth - in all areas of life.

If you're currently seeking a way to create time-out, this bodes well for allowing it. Planning a small getaway, or even some time to lavish yourself is ideal this week.

If you're seeking harmony in love and relationships, this week should see abundance in the way you most need it - this could be new growth or closure.

If you have been toiling away at work, expect to see some good come of it this week - and - if you are beginning a new venture (or have been thinking of it) - the sun shines on that opportunity to begin it *now*!

It's a very positive card, and indicates a time of positive growth for the week ahead.

Open yourself up to this energy by practicing gratitude in some way, and leaning into the silver linings - the sun will then shine brightly on what you have been waiting for β˜€οΈ
