My name is Carmen Dodds, I am am Occupational Therapist and the local Franchise owner of Ready Steady Go Kids. My passion lies with developing a child's gross motor skills. Gross motor skills are the fundamental foundations for Speech and Fine motor skills. My aim in therapy is to develop a child's skill set and improve their physical, emotional, social, sensory and academic abilities. I believe i

Therapeutic Benefits for Handwriting:

1. Fine Motor Strength & Dexterity
    •    Inserting swords into the barrel requires hand and finger strength, similar to pencil grip.
    •    Promotes graded pressure control, helping with appropriate pressure during writing.

2. Bilateral Coordination
    •    Children must stabilize the barrel with one hand and insert the sword with the other—important for paper stabilization and writing at the same time.

3. Hand-Eye Coordination
    •    Aiming and inserting the swords builds visual-motor integration, essential for legible handwriting.

4. Turn-Taking and Focus
    •    Taking turns promotes attention, impulse control, and task persistence, supporting classroom behavior during writing tasks.
