Hey Universal Supps fam, it’s Emily here.
I’ve recently decided to get back onto the aerial silks after a whole year off!

My grip strength and core are definitely questioning my life choices, but the rush of nailing a sequence again is totally worth it. It’s also a stark reminder that I need to stock up on our pre-workout and hydration before next week’s session... 😅

A massive shout-out to Totally Tumbling And Tricks for creating such an incredibly welcoming space for adult students. If you’re local and looking for a fun way to build serious functional strength, you need to check them out. They have a great Intro package to introduce you to Silks and Lyra.
Now, excuse me while I go drink a recovery shake. Who’s joining me for the next class? 🥤👇

It’s one of the most common questions we get in store.

The truth is, there isn’t a single number that works for everyone.

Your protein needs depend on:
🏋️ Your body weight
🏃 Your activity level
💪 Your training volume
🎯 Your goals (muscle gain, fat loss or maintenance)
🎂 Your age

A good starting point for people who train regularly and want to build or maintain muscle is around 1.6–2.2g of protein per kilogram of body weight per day.

For example:
• 60kg = 96–132g/day
• 70kg = 112–154g/day
• 80kg = 128–176g/day
• 90kg = 144–198g/day
• 100kg = 160–220g/day

These are starting points—not strict rules. Some people may need more or less depending on their circumstances.

Why use a protein supplement?
Here’s the thing...
You don’t necessarily HAVE to…

IF you can meet your protein needs through whole foods like meat, fish, eggs, dairy, tofu and legumes, that’s fantastic. BUT, I’ll be honest, most people don’t hit their numbers, and a lot of times, are waaaay off…

Protein powder is simply a convenient, high-quality source of protein that makes it easier to hit your daily target—especially when life gets busy. Plus it lets you simply and accurately track your macros.

A protein shake can be useful when:
✔️ You’re short on time
✔️ You struggle to eat enough protein
✔️ You want an easy post-workout option
✔️ You’re trying to build muscle
✔️ You’re dieting and want to stay full while preserving muscle
✔️ You need a portable, convenient snack

At the end of the day, the best protein supplement is the one that helps you consistently meet your daily protein needs.

Not sure how much protein you should be eating or which product is right for you?

Drop into UNVRSL Port Kembla and we’ll help you work it out—based on your goals, not the latest trend.

Protein is an essential nutrient your body needs to build and maintain muscle, repair tissues, produce enzymes and hormones, and support countless processes throughout the body.
If you train regularly, maintaining an adequate protein intake becomes particularly important for recovery, adaptation and muscle growth.

Can you get enough protein from food?

Absolutely.

BUT - consistently eating 120g, 150g or 180g+ of protein every day isn’t always convenient! Or cheap…

That’s where protein supplements come in.
Protein powder, and ready-to-drink shakes provide a convenient way to increase your protein intake without another trip to the shops or preparing yet another meal.

Protein supplements are a very effective tool to help you reach your daily protein target.

The right product depends on your diet, digestion, goals, preferences and budget.
Over the next few posts, we’re breaking down the different options—including WPC, WPI, protein water, plant protein and collagen—so you can understand what you’re buying and choose the right product for you.

Need help working out how much protein you need or which product suits you?

Come into UNVRSL Port Kembla and ask us.

WhatSupp players… Cramps don’t care if you’re halfway through a race, deep into extra time, or about to start your next round.

With multiple high profile athletes, NRL players and other sportspeople endorsing Pickle Juice. Pickle Juice Shot is a concentrated, ready-to-drink electrolyte shot designed for athletes who need a fast and convenient option when exercise-associated muscle cramps threaten to shut down performance.

The bold pickle flavour stimulates sensory receptors in the mouth and throat, triggering a neurological response that may help interrupt cramping rapidly — potentially before the electrolytes have even had time to be fully absorbed.
At the same time, Pickle Juice Shot delivers sodium and electrolytes to help replace what’s lost through sweat and support your wider hydration strategy during hard training, endurance events, competition, and hot conditions.

Crack it, Drink it, Get back to work…

Give it a try… In store now.

WhatSupp? What happens when you take creatine every day?

(Spoiler: it’s all good stuff…)

1. Helps increase muscle creatine stores - increasing ATP (Immediate Muscle Energy)
2. Supports rapid energy production during high-intensity exercise.
3. Improves strength and power output.
4. Helps increase training volume.
5. Supports muscle growth when combined with resistance training.
6. Draws water into muscle cells, improving muscle hydration and body composition (PS: water weight is not ‘bad’ weight - more on that later…)
7. Improved cognitive function, particularly during times of fatigue, high stress, or sleep deprivation.
Remember - consistency matters more than timing - 5-10g per day, every single day (5 for the body, 5 for the brain).

Want to start taking creatine but don’t know which one to buy? Come into store or DM us and we’ll help you choose the right one for you! 😎💪🙏

What Supp…? 👀 There is a lot of chat about creatine in the space at the moment, and lots of products in the market. It can be a bit overwhelming understanding what it is, the different types, uses, how to use, when to use, who it’s for, and who it’s not for. As part of our ‎WhatSupp series will be giving some more information about one of the best researched supplements on the market right now 😎💪

Creatine is a naturally occurring compound stored mainly in your muscles.
Your body uses it to help rapidly regenerate ATP—your cells’ immediate source of energy.
More available energy can help you perform more high-intensity work.
More reps. More training volume. Better strength progression.
Over time, better training can contribute to increased muscle growth.
Creatine isn’t a steroid. It isn’t a stimulant. And it’s not just for bodybuilders.
Over the next few posts, we’re breaking down everything you need to know about creatine…
