As a gut health mentor it’s normal that For years I’ve focused heavily on fibre and gut health.
And that’s still non-negotiable.
But as I’ve gotten older, I’ve realised something.
Fiber Isnt everything- we need protein too.
Protein isn’t just about weight loss.
It’s about muscle protection.
Strength.
Metabolism.
Bone health.
Ageing well.
I started noticing I wasn’t as strong as I used to be.
Not because I was lazy and didn’t exercise
Because muscle loss is normal as we age.
And I’ll be honest I never really calculated how much protein I was eating. Or knew how much i should be eating!
I just assumed it was enough.
But 300g of meat 🥩 isnt 300g of protein!
So I started tracking it. And i was shocked
If you’re over 40 and trying to lose fat, protect muscle, and stop feeling constantly snacky…
Make sure youre getting enough protein as well as fiber!
You should eat 1.6-2.2g protein per kilo of body weight.
If goal weight = 63kg
1.6–2.0g per kg = 63 × 1.6 = 100g
Or 63 × 2.0 = 126g
So target range: 100–125g per day
I’ve got a simple online protein tracker you can use if youre curious how youre tracking with your Intake !
